so if you want to become a pro voiceover artist the key is to step up all of your auditioning skills so today in this video we’re going to go over all audition best practices and help you land more jobs so as we move into more of a work from home economy auditioning from home it’s just becoming a regular part of the gig now you’re going to be auditioning getting hired and getting paid without even meeting the client face-to-face so first of all what are auditions and why are they important well an audition is about a 15 to 20 second custom read of a client’s script on a specific job this will show the client exactly how you’re going to fit in with their project they might even take the audition and play it along with their video and their music to see exactly how it’s going to fit in a voiceover demo is going to be different that’s going to be your standard recording or set of recordings that you use as your resume or portfolio the audition though has got to be that custom read remember when you’re auditioning the majority of clients make their decision within the first five to ten seconds of hearing so that’s your chance to convince the client that you are worth listening to now these people are professional listeners so you gotta take that chance and make a really solid first impression okay so how do the pros audition sure a pro’s doing dozens of auditions per day they’re going in and considering the budget the word count the competition how many other people have auditioned for the project all of these factors are in play but the pros are basically going send it and forget it this means the talent are more interested in sending in more auditions than spending time crafting that one perfect audition to put it simply you may just not be the right voice for the job despite the amount of work you put into the audition focus your energy on casting a wider net in auditioning to more jobs pro voice over talent get really good at profiling a role very quickly and either moving on to the next one or immediately giving their best selves to that audition either way they do it quickly and one of the best time savers is getting good at quickly passing over any job where you don’t meet the basic criteria if the client’s looking for a different voice age gender or accent immediately you’ll be competing at a disadvantage so instead focus your energy on jobs that are right in your wheelhouse time is money your time is money and your audition time is part of your work day if you’re thinking like a business a good practice is to divide your total earnings by the number of auditions this will give you an earnings per audition number so this mindset will help reinforce the drive to get more and more auditions throughout the day the more auditions sent the more you’ll make it’s simple and the more auditions you send the more experience you get so auditioning is truly the fastest way to get really good top earners are usually spending less than five minutes per audition five minutes that’s it from opening the script reading the requirements recording their read cleaning up the edit exporting it from their editor uploading it onto voices filling out the proposal placing their bid and submitting it to the client so it will take some time to get your auditions down to five minutes so don’t worry if you’re not there yet just like anything the craft of voiceover takes time and you will improve your auditions the more time you submit so as you can see it is really important to value your time and to get as many good quality auditions submitted as possible there’s nothing you can do if you’re not a good fit for the job at a baseline level so the more auditions the better it only increases your chances of getting hired and building lasting relationships with clients thanks so much for watching everyone if you are interested in following along with the rest of the series please feel free to subscribe in the next video we’ll cover some do’s and don’ts for your live directed sessions as always happy auditioning and we’ll see you in the next one
