good morning and welcome to the morning voice over huddle how you guys doing I’m Bill Louise professional voice over talent and um voiceover coach demo producer and this is some funky lighting I’m getting this morning it makes me it makes my hair look almost silver doesn’t it it’s kind of crazy coming to you from uh the house that we just moved into in Illinois still unpacking surrounded by boxes uh yesterday my daughter and her husband came over and set up my whisper room so today I’ve got to get the acoustic foam put into that and my equipment in there and get ready to you know to do all that again and then we have a room here that we’re going to fix up and turn into my new office Studio but just uh a lot going on around here hope you guys had a great Fourth of July weekend and are ready to you know to get back into it and today I wanted to talk to you about Listen by the way this is not a new topic it’s been a while and occasionally I think you know it comes up as a question a lot so I thought it was something as worth talking about again and that’s legit places to get voice over work if you’ve decided to get into voiceover work or you’re you’ve been doing a voiceover work maybe you need to move on and find new sources of voice over work where do you do that so to have that conversation you really have to start off by by explaining the best way not to get work um a lot of you guys are treating voice over as if it’s 1985. or maybe even 1995 and that was it was a different game back then and uh most work you know there were Gatekeepers this is back before technology really exploded and made it possible to work directly with clients and so uh you know if you were to if you got into voice over then and probably even if you got into voiceover recently you were told well you need to get training and then you’ve got uh you need to get an agent or maybe multiple agents and then you just start auditioning and then you get more training and audition and training and additional training well the problem with that equation is this and that is that now with technology and the many platforms that exist well agents still do exist and they’re out there um they account for you know maybe that much of your potential Market whereas there’s some much more opportunity when you use the platforms that exist that don’t utilize agents and when you’re directly marketing and working directly with with clients so it is a and for those who would tell you otherwise um do do some due diligence of your own and just see if what I’m saying is not the truth if you want to make money in voiceover if you want to make a good living and not dabble and not get work occasionally then you’ve got to to understand what the market is like now and where you can go to get work on what to do so let’s talk about that for just a moment so here’s an overview of that first of all if you know the if you’re brand new at this you definitely want to go you want to look at the freelance websites that are out there a lot of voiceover work is coming through through freelance sites and by the way that’s not just for new talent but I’m saying if you’re brand new to or I mean really it doesn’t matter what level you’re at there is opportunity on freelance sites uh two of my favorites will be Fiverr excuse me and also upwork my I’m not on upwork myself but a lot of my students are having success on upwork and what you’ll find is there’s a lot of different you know you don’t you don’t need to be on every platform you don’t have to have your finger you know stuck in every single thing that’s going on uh because there’s a lot what you need to do is develop a handful of marketing channels and really learn them understand them and then work them very hard but Fiverr is a great platform regardless of whether you’re new or whether you’re seasoned it’s a great place for it to get entry-level work and then to be able to work your way up from there and um the great thing about Fiverr is that it’s run by legitimate business people with uh successful business backgrounds who understand the market and have created opportunities at every rung of the voiceover ladder um a portion of my a smaller portion of my work but yet I mean a nice chunk comes through Fiverr and my average job on Fiverr is almost the same as it is through other outlets whether it be agencies or or paid and play sites or what have you so there’s opportunities like I said on every rung of the ladder income wise and experience wise when it comes to Fiverr also I really am a I’m a big fan of audiobooks especially for people who are just getting into it not that audiobooks are just for newbies or beginners but there’s a there’s a lot of I don’t need to go into the explanations of why but they’re just a lot of a lot of audiobooks out there that need narrators and if you’re new at this there are opportunities again at the lower end of the pay scale to get started to get some experience and to get a little bit of cash flow acx.com would be a great place owned by Amazon findaway voices.com another great place owned by Spotify ahabtalent.com another place uh that’s designed specifically to match audiobook narrators to audiobooks to be recorded now for those of you who’ve been around for a while this is not I do not recommend if you’re brand new at voiceover to do this but if you’ve been doing this for a while and you’ve developed your skills your competitive auditioner and you’ve got professional grade demos then pay to play sites are certainly a place where you can get work legitimate work and that would be places like the ones that come to mind are the biggest ones voices.com and voice123.com are the two largest by a long shot there are others such as the voice realm and there those are really the only three that I recommend to people that I know firsthand are are um that are legit and that I have actually gotten quite a bit of work from there may be a few others out there as well some that always ask people what their experience has been on there because there are there are some sites that they’re there but I have yet to meet anybody who’s booked work off of them so it’s something you might want to check into in addition to pay to play uh for for those of you who again have been doing this for a while and operated a pretty high level direct marketing I wouldn’t jump into direct marketing if you’re brand new at this because it’s it’s the deep end of the pool but uh again if you have a strong skill set you’re a strong auditioner and you’ve got professional level demos direct marketing where you’re reaching out directly to content producers like video producers because I mean there’s over 45 000 video production companies in the us alone and it’s a global market um you know like yesterday I booked a job out of Europe I would say 25 of them all my work comes from just from Europe but I’ve also been done for clients in Russia Japan China uh Brazil Israel Dubai I mean all over the place there’s big demand for North American English voices all over the world there’s demand for all voices in all languages all over the world as a matter of fact so there’s no shortage of places to find work the shortage comes in um understanding the knowledge of not only what they are but how to do it and then being having the willingness to do the work because just because you know where to go doesn’t mean that it’s just a matter of knocking on a door and somebody’s going to open it up and hand you a job you’ve got to understand how to work a a marketing plan and a marketing system but it starts by going to places that are legit like Fiverr and upwork ACX find a way voices Ahab Talent voices.com voice one two three and several other places or again just directly going to audiobook Publishers or to video producers content creators and marketing yourself that way and you will never ever ever run out of prospective clients to Market yourself to so I hope you find that useful put it into practice but if you’re saying bill I don’t know how to put that into practice I hear what you’re saying but I don’t
