astrothere are some wounds that could have happened to you during childhood and then you haven’t resolved it yet they are designed the way they are supposed to and I didn’t know how that affected me until I saw in my birth chart that it really healed many of my wounds so this particular profile in in my little matrix is called the caretaker from that regard it’s so accurate whether it’s your love life your career your your strengths and weaknesses you know all all this is just there for you to see and I would say make use of hello everyone today I’m so excited to be doing this interview with my astrology teacher she’s not just an astrology teacher okay she’s a renowned astrologist and also astrology teacher because not every astrologist can teach right okay so uh welcome May Sim to this interview and uh before I introduce her later on I think I’ll just start off with uh you know why I’m doing this interview because I think for a singing teacher to do an astrology interview it’s a bit weird to most people would you say yeah but I think it really transformed how I lived my life the past I would say maybe two years because I started learning from you in March 2023 actually yeah it transformed my life and also I know you don’t like to use the word wounds but it really healed many of my wounds okay so I’m going to explain how and why basically right what astrology did to me okay I actually stopped feeling guilty because you know like every one of us has a unique birth chart right and you know like I went to university to study psychology it was a choice of my own you know nobody forced me i happily studied it and yet at the same time right I I got to a stage in my life when I felt like oh my god is this going to be the rest of my life like because I was trying to do music I was like writing songs and then learning songs singing songs you know thinking about music all the time and and then I fell into a mild depression thinking like oh my god is this what I’m going to do for the rest of my life you know and and then I switched to doing try to do music right and I think in my 20ies some of my friends actually um guilt-trip me because they were saying things like oh Bevlyn you know actually your family they’re quite well to do so that’s why you can afford to do music so at that time I didn’t know they were like struggling you know to put themselves through university and had to do part-time jobs but I didn’t have to and uh so for a while I felt very guilty you know I was like oh my god like yeah I can do music you know I felt shame you know and I felt guilt it’s so weird Yeah so when I study astrology I realize that hey this is what I’m meant to do in this lifetime and you know because my essential planets are are in the recreational house and if I don’t do music I just felt like dying you know yeah so I I stopped feeling guilty i stopped feeling ashamed of like pursuing my passion and then others cannot you know so that really changed me my energy and I also see from my birth chart that I I’m somebody who has to put in a lot of effort in my body and to build an identity you know that’s why my pursuit to become a singer and the funny thing is right you know um being technical Saturn in the first house I discovered only maybe five years ago that I actually have a mild tongue tie which means that I actually have to put in more effort than any natural singer to to really try to get it going you know to sing well to speak well and to to put in more effort than a natural singer for example to learn from scratch how to sing and also uh and I also learned from my birth chart that there’s such a thing as Saturn return uh which means that if you put in hard work consistency discipline you know you may get rewarded around is correct me if I’m wrong 28 to 29 uh 29 years around 28 to 30 years 30 years the chart yeah yeah yeah so I got a a shock you know when I saw my chart and I’m like "Oh my god." Actually I I did win an award when I was 28 and I got signed to a record label when I was 28 it’s like it’s right on the dot like ah how freaky is that you know yeah so uh when I met you I think you transformed my world because I took two courses from you the basic course and the intermediate course okay so I remember I think I needed to travel in between so there was a gap but I didn’t even wait for your intermediate course i finished your basic course right and I sold away my agency that I had for 20 years you know yeah so I mean it it was a a torture for me towards the end of the 20 years and I didn’t know why and then from your lessons right I realized that oh because I was suppressing my Leo energy which is the performer in me because as an agent back then uh if I wanted to grow my business I have to groom other artists and singers and give them opportunities right so I have to actually like downplay myself and maybe say um this gig maybe I don’t want to do maybe I give it to her you know yeah I was suppressing myself and I didn’t know how that affected me until I saw in my birth chart that hey no no Bevlyn you’re supposed to be out there you’re supposed to be visible and you know be it a singing teacher or performer you’re supposed to be visible yeah so I didn’t wait for your second course I just sold it away I mean did you know about all this actually I’m not sure if you know I mean you you did say in class that uh you you let go of your of your agency so uh and I think you shared that on the first day of of the PA course the the psychological astrology course So uh I was surprised but uh but I did think that you were kind of at the at the edge like at the end of it already yeah but I could have um dra dragged on a few more years i don’t know uh it just felt like I just felt like you know so tortured and uh I think the course gave me the push because I can see everything and the funny thing is after I I learned astrology I just feel like hey like like you take the red pill and then you there’s a grid you know every time you you perceive the world is you can sense energies and traits and then I think one thing that transformed me as well is uh I stopped being like a bit judgmental because I used to think how come this person is like that you know why why why are they like that you know yeah and then sometimes I’ll be like why is this student like that you know so now I I don’t judge people anymore i realize that everyone is unique they are designed the way they are supposed to and if uh things are meant to happen for them the planetary transits will happen for them if it’s meant to be that’s how I think now so I think it helped me to heal a lot of wounds from that regard like uh it liberated me I would say yeah and that’s why I really want my students to uh find out more about astrology find out more about themselves through astrology be it you know doing readings or learning astrology themselves uh I think uh because I think a lot of my students they tell me things like uh I’m not sure why uh I’m so awkward on stage of course there’s a a time that you need to learn to expand into being comfortable on stage but at the same time there are some wounds you know um that you could have um that could have happened to you during childhood and then you haven’t resolved it yet yeah because I also have students who tell me like "Oh uh I don’t know why I I start crying in the middle of a song you know." Yeah yeah so um I’m very happy to have you here today uh so I think everybody is very curious about who this person is because uh I would say easily say you are one of the best actually you’re the best astrologer in Singapore I would say do you want to introduce yourself yeah yeah of course of course I can do this quite simply uh I actually have been doing astrology for more than 20 years now so I started uh as a teenager and and like most people I mean you’re you’re not you’re not like any good at anything when when you when you first start out right so that basically skill sets and experience just gets built up over the years right so um my I I today uh as an astrologer I still see my clients I still run my academy so I run Selfstrology academy uh it is I think the only like properly established academy for western astrology in this part of the world so you you simply um I mean there are other people who are like teaching classes here and there but to have an actual academy with a full syllabus I I think we’re still just about the only one really in this region so um my own background is that I I did do a degree in astrology from the international academy of astrology so that’s for the people who want to know like do you have paper right um so I I do and it was a three and a half year degree uh in astrology very technical kind of education and that’s why uh my technicals in astrology is strong because because of that um but I think for the people who are like trying to like learn astrology most people are not like trying to be a technical astrologer like me so so I think most people are on like self-discovery sort of journey so I think uh the academy that I run in Singapore is more catered to the I would say it’s like a lay man person who wants to apply astrology into their life so not necessarily to be like a technical astrologer yeah so so that’s that’s the the background uh I wasn’t always an astrologer so I also came from a like quite quite a corporate background uh long time ago like it almost feels like a lifetime ago i used to be a general manager in a high safety consultancy so I spent all my time in construction sites and shipyards and petrochemical sites and I hang out with Bangladeshi workers and it’s basically men everywhere right so a lot of like hokkien swearing and that kind of stuff is it’s a like a day in the life for me so basically become going from that to to becoming an astrologer is is a is a massive change and I think it’s a story that a lot of people resonate with nowadays because it’s is the idea that you you start out following a particular type of career and then halfway along the way when you sort of like get in touch with who you really are and then it’s it’s that feeling that okay maybe I can pursue a career on my own terms like you spend so much of your life in a career um I don’t think it’s just a matter of a career thing like people talk about meaning and purpose uh and I think that is very sorely missing in in a world where people are just very concerned about like cost of living and like paying for stuff so it’s like you you put a lot of things aside just just to just to be in that space where a lot of people are very stressed up i think and and like you say feeling guilty for the person that you want to be so you want to sing then you just sort of feel like like it’s wrong to to be who you are and I think that happens to so many people and uh I thought you might be interested to know I I think I mentioned it here and there but it’s very interesting that Bevlyn says that she comes from like a singing background and then in the last few years you got in touch with astrology and in fact my story is the opposite of yours because uh in my late teens I actually uh I actually was headed for a career in music that was the that was the original thing and and it was like um I I actually was headhunted by uh like a talent agency so um and and I was kind of being groomed for uh potentially a career in in musical theater so I actually gave that up after 5 years i did a few lead roles here and there so I wasn’t pop like I was like I was like more musical theater Broadway style sort of thing but uh and then I gave that up uh for for a corporate career and then here I am i ended up becoming an astrologer so so I I do know something about being on stage uh I don’t think it’s a waste because you know like the nature of the work that I do right now requires me me to be on stage in front of the camera a lot so actually the training being a performer is also something that trains you to to know how to like so put yourself out there without without feeling so scared right so I I don’t think the experience is wasted but interesting that you’re asking me about singing and performing so uh luckily I I do have a bit of personal experience about that that’s why I thought you are the perfect astrologist to ask yeah yeah yeah yeah i I do miss my days on the stage sometimes yeah i’m sure yeah so anyway that that’s me that’s my introduction okay okay yes um Yeah so I think uh today is going to be fun because uh I’m going to ask you a few questions that my students have in mind um and also myself like you know um uh so maybe towards the end we can have some like rapid fire questions kind of model yeah but right now maybe I’ll just ask very broad general questions you know about singing because I think singing is such a intimate personal expression you know um I mean to talk is very different from singing right like especially to sing it to a lot of people and somehow a lot of people feel very shy about you know showing their singing voice and know being on stage and being visible so I’m just wondering right from the angle of astrology are you able to explain to lay man you know how this works because um Okay first of all do you want to explain what astrology is because I think some people think it’s just like right the magazine yeah yeah yeah so okay so I I just want to start off first that uh if if for the people who are listening and watching this if you think astrology is like you know you you every year you sort of go and check out like what what’s in store for Gemini or Scorpio that stuff doesn’t work okay because there’s like 8 billion people in the world population right so if you divide that by 12 signs on average every sign got like a few hundred million people it cannot be that every single person will meet boyfriend that particular month right so it doesn’t make any sense okay so which is why if there are intelligent people out there saying that astrology is like hot wash right i can see why people come to that conclusion because then a lot of people think it’s just you know like horoscopes right so so that that that stuff doesn’t work okay so but what Bevlyn is talking about when she says the word astrology is actually based on this thing that we call a natal chart that that’s how it is for most people right so you start off with a birth date a birth time and a birth city so three pieces of information that we need to cast a chart so that particular chart is unique to you so essentially no person on earth has the same chart as you so the nature of that chart some of you have seen it before it looks like a circle thing with like with a lot of like symbols all over it uh so if you can’t read it of course it looks like you know hieroglyphics right but but if you do then basically you can see things like for example where people have different uh emphasis in certain parts of their life that there’s a reason why some people are great researchers so so they go to universities and they do really well there and then there are people who cannot even do their homework without their like mind sort of like going somewhere else right and then there are there are people who uh very comfortably go into like dating situations and there are people who are terrified so basically the the chart gives me a a very clear idea of um your view of the world this includes everything from your personal life to your attitude towards money to relationships to career everything basically so um nowadays we take a very psychological view on uh profiling so that makes it a little bit different from very traditional astrology where it’s all about fortune telling that people want to know like when things are going to happen to them uh and yes astrology does have that history but I think it has updated itself in in more recent years where I think your your average person who is like you know below the age of 60 I think it’s it’s you’re starting to get the sense that people want to know who am I why am I here and how can I best contribute myself and my my talents and my skills i think so i think astrology answers that question for a lot of people which uh I’m I’m not really sure if there’s any other course or or or consultation that you can go to that helps you to uncover that information yeah and I think it’s more accurate than like you know Myers Brigg type indicators yes where it it just type uh you know put you into a box but it doesn’t tell you anything about the kind of men you’re attracted to yes and I think one one other big thing especially for the people who are familiar with profiling tools right is that you know when you do an MBTI um there’s nothing wrong with MBTI per se but it’s like say for example you know you’re ENTJ or whichever like it assumes that you’re ENTJ in everything in life but I’m sure you’ve noticed that some people are alphas in the workplace but then at home they get pushed around by their family members right right or or they’re very eloquent on stage but then when they go on a date then they don’t know what to say you know what I mean basically astrology acknowledges that we actually have different approaches to different things right so so it’s like you can be very disciplined about your own money but then it’s like it comes to like somebody with a sad story then you just give them thousands of of dollars of your money so why then your discipline disappears when it’s about giving money to other people so this is where I think astrology is very specific and and it’s it’s accurate because it tells you where the differences are yeah Hmm and I think uh uh for the lay man who really doesn’t know anything about the birth chart right i think it’s so accurate because you know there are like 12 sectors in the birth chart and like every every uh pie you know represents some aspects of your life so you know and then there’s planets all over and you know depending on what planet what energies you know that’s how you get more motivated right that’s how I explain it yeah and I I feel that from that regard is so accurate you know whether it’s your love life your career your your strength and weaknesses you know all all this is just there for you to see as I would say make use of yeah for me I think it made me feel that I can see myself clearer yeah because if if not I may feel ashamed or guilty or I just don’t see that I need to work on some things you know and you know Bevlyn because we are both teachers right and so basically the concept of education in general is that there’s a one-size fit all so it’s it’s almost like there’s this formula that if you follow like from 1 to 10 that that student will learn it in that way but I think what’s very clear about astrology is like even if you talk about things that outside of astrology and singing if you talk about traditional education there’s always that sense that oh if it’s either you fit into that mould or else you are lousy or you are bad or you are stupid and you cannot learn something which is absolutely not true because there are million and one ways to teach something and and so what this means is that uh and if you you extrapolate that same idea into like corporate and and there’s always this formula that you just have to squeeze a square peg into a round hole which uh which if you think about it once we start to understand that each person is an individual then it explains why so many people feel like misfits like they just don’t fit into that system uh and I think people find acceptance uh in astrology if if that helps really okay yeah so I think let’s talk about expressiveness and singing because I think there’s a lot of things that really bother my students and I’m sure a lot of my singing students you know like uh okay I think the first question is why is it that some people can sing so naturally well and they don’t have to take singing lessons you know why is it why is life so unfair from the astrology point of view how would you explain that to somebody okay if you’re talking about natural talent then this is not really something that uh I would personally use astrology for because you see once once we start talking about something that’s a natural talent you know how some people just look like Miss Universe and some people don’t right and and and some people just have the bodies of Usain Bolt which means that if he trains he can simply run faster than you or me for example right because he’s just a certain height and he has a certain kind of muscle uh makeup that makes his likelihood of being an Olympic champion a lot higher than say if Bevlyn were to do it you know what I mean so it’s it’s just like if we want to talk about something that is natural then the word natural already tells you that um the then I would say psychologically sometimes it’s a bit damaging to go into an astrology chart to say whether or not this person is like natural uh for the purpose of feeling like sorry for ourselves that you are not naturally blessed by something you know what I’m saying so um so I I think on that on that note it’s more like uh will will it show that some people are more naturally uh have beautiful voices for example yes just as the chart can suggest that some people look like Cleopatra and then some people are just ordinary looking um yeah so so that that would be the case so it’s just a matter of uh but my belief after doing so many years of charts is that there’s always something you know in Chinese they say 行行出狀元 right there’s always something that a person is is really good at so uh yalo I to answer your question on the basic level is can the chart show the the probability that somebody is very talented in music yes yes so there are some signs there are some placements you mentioned just now that there is a segment in the chart a house in the chart that talks about things like recreation and presentation so are there people who are more inclined in the area absolutely and some people just uh don’t really have a lot of resources in their area which is why they might never ever go anywhere near um presentation or or performance yeah so that actually is in the chart yes yeah but what I like about um uh you know studying astrology because um not that I want to compare but I think a lot of people will say so why is it how is it different from Bazi you know for example yeah um but I think personally okay I know nothing about Bazi but I had my fair share of Bazi readings before okay but I can tell you Bazi feels a bit more fatalistic to me it’s like okay you’re you just do this don’t do that because you will feel so effortful doing this just do this you know and but I think astrology gives me the or at least based on what I know based on my life I feel like oh hey actually I’m not I have a lot of passion for singing but actually I wasn’t a natural singer you know I had to put in so much effort over so many years to make things happen but it doesn’t mean that I cannot do it you know so I think this is where uh the potential of growth and uh transformation can happen you know when we talk about birth charts actually I what I can what I can share though is that um so for example your chart and mine uh we have quite a few indicators that link to the fifth house so the fifth is where performance or expression is so it doesn’t specifically say singing per se but we would be interested in different forms of performance right so in your case it’s quite a specific thing on singing but like I said you know because I have a history of performing on stage it wasn’t just singing i had to dance too i had to I had to act as well yeah and I I’ve emceed like a bunch of of of events and things like that so it’s like the there are people like you and me who would take an interest in it so whether or not we eventually make a career out of it is it’s it’s a personal choice right whether you want to make a career out of it but for example my my brother for example has got nothing in that house and he’s got barely any connection in his chart whatsoever to that particular house so my brother has shown zero interest in in being on stage there on the rare occasions where somebody pass him a microphone ask him to speak publicly uh (screw up) right because he’s um he’s just not comfortable with performance and frankly he has no interest in it yeah so in a sense both me and him were brought up in the same household but uh our charts also show us how we take our opportunities because um you know Bevlyn my parents are really into music so when I was growing up we would be playing music all the time at home but because I enjoyed myself so much I would just sing songs around the house and annoy like everybody at home right not practice singing when I was younger but if you think about it my brother had the exact same upbringing but he did not end up being a performer so in that sense you see our chart is also not like what you got and what you didn’t because actually me and my brother got the same upbringing but the thing is because we are different personalities to me it was an opportunity to him it was like my annoying sister is singing all over the house again right so I think the chart tells us not so much where we are talented but rather where we wanted to go in the first place yeah so for me singing at home is an opportunity I had practice at home yeah so that basically It build your confidence over time because then you you learn what you do to make your voice sound a bit more pleasant right so if you’ve done it for years and years even without training you kind of get a sense of okay this sounds bad or oh here this is more on pitch you know what I’m saying yeah so then you just sort of learn over the years you know yeah yeah yeah so I mean I’m just wondering I’m sure there’s also a lot of people you know who want to pursue doing music yeah but what kind of advice would you give them because um from the astrology point of view you know how would you empower them to say uh am I really meant to do music or not you know kind of thing yeah I think this idea about being meant to do something right uh has is is a is a multi-layer answer that I can I can give to you so I think in if a person already knows from a very young age that they want to do music then the the logical thing even if we don’t talk about astrology the logical thing is get yourself trained ASAP right i mean if if it’s like if you want to play the erhu for example right that’s also music then you want to go and take lessons as soon as you can because if you ask any grownup adult even if they’re in their 20s or their 30s’ considered young right but the thing is you try and get a 32 year old to learn erhu right it’s it’s an uphill battle but you know when you are 13 or 14 years old it’s so easy right and so that’s why when the kids who pick up uh musical instruments when they’re in school they join the band they join like uh Chinese orchestra or whatever it is It’s like there is something about the the development i I I’m no expert okay but the thing is circumstantial evidence shows us that people who pick up musical instruments when they are younger it’s like riding a bicycle you learn to play the piano uh you might forget but you know you get back you get back into it right so so the thing here is that uh then I would say learn ASAP okay of course not everybody has the financial resources uh or the luxury of um that sometimes and and things are getting expensive right so basically um is there a case where parents may not be able to afford that may be so um but logically get trained ASAP uh get as many opportunities as you can to perform uh because then all this is just chalking up your basically getting your experience so that’s really important um but you know there’s also the other school of thought right which is that can you then mould somebody into a performer if you if you give them a lot of opportunities uh you know the weird thing is that there have been a lot of uh if if you look at even in Hollywood there were a lot of these child stars who uh were very popular when they were younger and you know by the time they get to about 14 15 years they completely disappear so that that that famous child star has now disappeared from from entertainment and what I sometimes realize is that some people decide after a while that this isn’t for them so that means which is also another reason to to go and get started ASAP so that if you know it’s you tried it and then you decide at some point as an adult there’s something else I like to do I don’t want to perform then that’s also a personal choice i think that’s great too right and personally I was one of those people so by the time I got to about 24 years old it was quite clear to me that I didn’t think I wanted to make a career in in in entertainment and which is why I I quit it didn’t mean that I didn’t get opportunity it’s precisely because I got opportunity that I knew it wasn’t for me you know right right because we experienced it then realized uh it’s not what I thought is going to be like it didn’t make me feel that you know fulfilling maybe yes and there are so many adults who miss that opportunity basically they got chicken (out) when they were younger or then they just didn’t take their opportunities and you know you get into your 40s and your 50s and you start thinking about like what if you know if only I tried when I was younger then this kind of regret a bit not worth it already right you you don’t want to get into it when you’re 46 you know you you want to go and and go go you know do it when you when you’re 16 and and know for sure if you want to do it for a career or not and there a lot of opportunities to perform and but having said that can somebody get into it later in life sure they can and there are just different forms of uh entertainment that come up there there are also actors who get into acting like you know later in life and then they just play the roles of older people there’s nothing wrong with that but what I’m saying is that if you want to make a career out of it as with any career not just entertainment right you want to get into it ASAP you know yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so would you be able to see that this person you know uh gets into music at a later age would that be visible in the birth chart actually yeah why not why not i mean it’s like the the logic here is that that the music is always like a combination of of talent and and technique is is both right so if if what you have is talent but you don’t have technique then the logical thing is get get yourself a very good teacher ASP right I mean there’s talented people who can do the karaoke stuff but but there’s a huge difference between a karaoke singer and somebody who’s actually been trained and most real singers can tell instantly whether that person has had training or not it’s a you you can tell straight away and and usually if you want a career in something uh those people are usually the trained singers right usually the the purely talented ones it’s um at some point you can tell that the training isn’t there oh you think so yeah you you don’t think so i mean I’m talking to the singing teacher here i mean you do you not know the difference like when you hear somebody who is not very trained you can tell right i know i know and I always tell people that you know let’s say out of a 100 people the the people the person right who doesn’t need vocal lessons like naturally can sing so well you know those American shows whatever show at age 9 10 11 12 like you know sing so well uh naturally better than the average person I think the percentage is so low i think if you want to sing well right you have to take lessons to to get to excellence and even very famous singers they do have vocal coaches that they don’t tell you about the thing is I think when people uh so I don’t know this is useful for your students but if you see on like America’s Got Talent or X Factor and then some person shows up and just sings like an angel right uh I’ll bet with you they’ve had coaching they’ve had they’ve had training you know it’s like and sometimes the training isn’t like maybe they haven’t gone to some fancy academy or whatever but there’s there’s somebody who has coached them right so it’s like when you’ve done your research you’re going to realize that someone’s got an opera singer there’s a vocal coach behind that they may not want to reveal you know yes yes i mean there there’s the odd person who can belt out a tune or whatever but to do this on a on a regular basis um to sing every day for a living you do need training yeah yeah yeah yeah i I agree yeah yeah and that’s why I think a lot of people they feel uh like I’m disadvantaged because you look at this 11 year old child you know she she can sing so well even when she’s so young and there’s no mention of her taking vocal lessons you know and oh I’m so old aready there’s no chance I can sing well then start ASAP are you selling my lessons absolutely like you know I I it’s it’s okay so yes I’m I I am selling your lessons because I I do know I’ve never attended Bevlyn’s lessons but I I do have your profile i know how hard Bevlyn works for her students but but you know even as even as people who have been in the industry it’s like um it’s it’s the small things you can always tell uh I mean I come from a musical theater background even things like dance so there are people who sure I’m sure you go you go to a dance club and there’s that one person who’s got moves and whatever right but it’s like when you watch your Hollywood movie and you see that one person with amazing moves trust me that person has a training that person has gone to classes right so don’t imagine that somebody is just uh this idea of that natural talent uh isn’t it isn’t quite it right and and even if they haven’t had like classes in the sense that they didn’t go to a fancy college but um having to perform often so even if you’re part of a performing family and then you just go on stage often the it is training it is training because then you you get told by people that okay don’t don’t um don’t pronounce the words like this or you might want to drag out a vowel at the end because it just sounds nicer right or when you modulate your your key you might want to do it like just just a beat earlier because then it sounds nicer so it’s it’s like and then you practice it like a thousand times right and that is training but you know most people are their idea of oh I feel so sad is just feeling sad for themselves but not actively training you know what I’m saying that’s a good point because it’s easy to be a victim and then don’t do anything about it then it guarantees that you’re a victim it guarantees that you’re not getting practice but practice means you get on stage and you you know very quickly especially if you record yourself and you listen to it over and over again you know that oh that that particular note is always off key so that there’s something that you can do to fix it but then if you don’t sing and you don’t record yourself and you never perform you will never know that that particular note is always off key right yes i mean since we’re on the topic of training right yes i mean as a singing teacher I know that if you want to sing well to have consistency on stage you know people don’t see the amount of time i I think to me it’s years of training and yes um yeah really just day in day out weekly yearly you know whatever whatever you want to say it’s just long duration of consistent training um um but at the same time from astrology I learned that there are three broad categories of people I mean what we call the fixed sign the cardinal sign and the mutable sign yes uh so do you want to explain a bit because I feel that uh once I learn astrology I start to realize if some of my students they are more cardinal and some are more like fixed and the differences show you know so I’m just thinking how maybe you can explain to people you know what these mean you know and the learning styles and how I should approach these students as a singing teacher Hmm well I mean uh you actually mentioned a couple of things there so I thought I I’d just sort of jump in here right uh you mentioned about how the amount of work that that is being taken uh that goes into things it’s like if you think about it that applies to everything it’s like you want to be a scientist you want to be an engineer you know that when an engineer goes out there explains something in very plain simple terms just so you know that person’s had like 10 plus 20 years of experience in engineering and and in school and and all those hours that they spend with their mentors and whatever it’s like nobody goes on stage and becomes a engineering genius in in three minutes it doesn’t happen and with every singer who goes out there and belts out a three minute song that’s 10 years of work right so it’s like and there is a there is a proverb in in Mandarin uh that goes like this so it’s 台上3分钟台下十年功 which means three minutes on stage comes about with 10 years of hard work so that applies to singing applies to astrology you know people want to see like you know it’s almost like magic someone reads your chart and it’s accurate just so you know it’s 20 years like it took me 20 years to get there right so so it’s like uh and I think it’s a very dangerous thing also because now we have this is a world of instant you go on Chatgpt type something press enter you get your answer right so and young people these days you know if they think they I mean if they have healthy self-esteem you know they just put their stuff online and they think they’re very good and I couldn’t tell them they’re missing out on so many things that they don’t know about you know yes yes it’s it’s like and I think it’s about the expectation of when you’re going to get a reward so so basically and it’s one of the reasons that there are cases of people who like you know you kind of newly join a company you’ve been there for six months and then you are asking why am I not promoted yet you know so it’s a and that that’s a common thing which I thought I wanted to sort of uh come in here because I think for a lot of things people accept that it takes years so you accept that it takes years to qualify a doctor you accept that it takes years to qualify a lawyer but there’s something about certain professions like singing for example performing like like astrology for example that people expect to be a professional like like you know they come for two lessons and they’re like why am I not like you know not singing like a pro why am I not golfing like Tiger Woods right so and I think it’s important that the teachers need to set um especially in a conversation like what we’re having here the teachers need to set a realistic expectation of where people can get um and I think there’s a sense of I know you want to learn a lot of things but there’s also a limit to how much somebody can absorb within uh a limited period of time and there’s a due process like you got to learn this before you learn that yes exactly exactly and you know in the olden days you join like the Shaolin monastery right you know how the the the person is basically sweeping floor for like two years before you even learn anything yeah it’s it’s a lot of these traditional skills that have been very entrenched and they’ve been there for thousands and thousands of years um you got the sashimi chef right you know you chop vegetables for like four years before they even let you touch the knife yeah but you know there is a reason why that skill is still around after thousands of years and then there are like you know Tik Tockers who come and go right you’re you’re hot today and you’re gone tomorrow right one day you’re in and next day you’re out right to to quote Heidi Klum so so the thing is like I mean if you want that longevity um the foundation is so important i just wanted to say that because you know something you said there like that the trigger is is there for every teacher who has put in the 10 20 years into their craft and interestingly um there was one day I was so bored you know so because there’s there’s a saying right if you want to master a skill it takes 10,000 hours then I went to calculate you know exactly 10,000 hours if I practice singing three hours a day you know so 10,000 hours divided by three how many days you know it came up to I think roughly about 13 years and I was shocked I was like yeah you know to say this to anyone it feels very demor demoralizing you know because it’s like do I want to spend 13 years on this and and do I get any guarantee that I’m going to make Yeah because 13 years is such a huge cost isn’t it it’s like my youth you know like the amount of money the the amount of time the effort where I get if you turn it around if you don’t spend that 13 years you’re guaranteed to not make it that’s true yeah yeah and and I think I think this is a a base point that we have to put in place because I suspect that you are going uh your questions will go deeper and deeper into like the meaning and purpose thing right which is which comes right back to to this thing about the very high cost that somebody pays to be a master in in in the thing that they want to do and that’s why meaning and purpose which I suspect you’ll get there uh in in later but um I think when it comes down to the the 13 years right it’s like uh I think at the beginning it feels like a very long process um but it really does take the 18 the 13 years you know I get astrology students who ask me it may How long do I have to practice astrology to to know that I’m good because you are my student too and you studied this for about couple years right and you know how even after two years it’s like when you get faced with a new chart you’re still like okay wait wait I need to know what is the keyword for Gemini right i need to make sure you still need the book and it’s like okay wait what’s the 12 keyword right sure kind of feeling yes yes so you know what I’m talking about right so there’s still that moment of okay wait wait I need to break this down like step by step right but but what my my students want to know is at what point do I get to the the the level right when I look at the chart it’s like whoa I can tell you story instantly right and my answer to them is when you get to your 500th chart you might get a chance of being there and and you know what I mean you see you you studying this for for two years and it’s like 500 charts sounds like oh my god like how am I going to get 500 charts right and so it sounds like a lot of work because it takes a lot of work to read the chart which my students know but the thing is but it makes sense to Bevlyn that when you do 500 charts now that’s when you read automatically because you know why you’ve referred to that book so many thousand times until it’s ingrained in your mind it’s like the information deposited somewhere then you can just retrieve exactly right so it’s like there are there is a there’s that resonance with a language that only comes when you referred to that book a thousand times until you get to the point where you don’t need the book already in fact you can write the book already you know what I mean so it takes 500 charts and and it probably takes like singing 500 songs to get anywhere near right it is something you agree with like you don’t sing 500 times how are you going to get anywhere that resonance with your voice yeah I mean for me I always tell my students you don’t have to sing the song a hundred times you know but because if you don’t get the techniques right then you’re just wasting time because sure you know you you do the singing with techniques a hundred times then you know it gets automated then you know you can trans transfer that to other songs or whatever right it’s the same techniques over and over again uh yeah but you know you mentioned about the the cardinal fix mutable thing and uh and yeah I thought maybe I can uh just add something on to that so for the people who are not familiar so astrology has 12 signs so everything from Aries to Pisces right so you’re probably familiar with the 12 signs but they’re actually divided into three categories so some of the signs are what we call cardinal so those are the Aries Cancer Capricorn Libra and then there’s the fixed there there’s another four signs that belong in the fixed category and another four signs that belong in the mutable category so depending on what is the balance so basically every single person is a mix of like a bunch of signs right so you have not just So if you’re Aries for example you’re not just Aries just so you know you have a lot of like other signs in your chart but what I teach my students is to figure out what is the balance so some people are like very very cardinal and then they are very very immutable and some people are quite like evenly balanced among the three so once you’ve had an astrologer go through your chart they will tell you if you are like a fixed dominant which means you have more fixed than than other types so what Bevlyn is referring to is that when uh if you want to assess a singing student for example and if you have their chart uh a teacher would be able to tell if somebody is a cardinal personality or otherwise yeah so um is there a difference in the approach and and how they do things well of definitely yes but I think it’s maybe potentially it is not so much in the actual singing skill itself but I think rather in say in the context of pursuing uh singing as a career or even as a side hustle I think those uh what we call the modes the three modes tend to play out more in terms of how they go about doing it so for example cardinal people are more go-getters so these are the people who are more likely to create their own opportunities So basically they don’t wait for somebody to hit them so these are the people who might feel a bit more motivated to record themselves and then post it on Tik Tok uh and even to record demo tapes or uh actively go and join competitions to basically uh because I’m a cardinal person myself so I can be a bit more evil to cardinal people because I’m the same right basically you just want to shove yourself into people’s faces and it’s like give me an opportunity i I want it now so there’s something very uh like a bit more aggressive generally speaking because they they a go-getter kind of energy right go get a go getter like I I make them sound like terrible people but actually to a large extent that is that an advantage yes of course because then you you don’t sit around waiting for people to call you or WhatsApp you right so then you are basically emailing all these recording studios emailing like people like like what Bevlyn used to be when she had her agency right basically to say can I sing for you can I audition i would like a chance right so they are the ones who they they’re a bit more thick skin in the sense that um at most I email 10 people maybe nine will ignore me but maybe one will give me a chance right so that the go-getter spirit uh is useful in a very cut-throat industry where I think opportunities especially in a country like Singapore is is not so uh not so widespread right so you you don’t get there are few big players and then there aren’t it’s not like everywhere everywhere you turn there’s people doing music not not in this country right so uh the gogetter thing is a bit more useful that is true uh is there a downside of course so then these people tend to be a bit uh they tend to jump the gun so sometimes if they are like not so good right and then maybe you posted like five Tik Tok videos then you expect to be Carrie Underwood you know then uh so that one can be a bit sometimes young upstart if you know what I mean right so that’s like not very good then you want to be like a sort of like a Grammy award winner you want to be Rihanna instantly doesn’t work that way because after I learned astrology I learn I learned about all these I realized that there are some students they really I tell them okay you are serious about becoming a singer okay now it’s so accessible you don’t need to wait for record labels to come and sign you discover you just post yourself on Tik Tok and then the people who are more driven they will do it but then after a while right you start to see they stop doing it yeah the basic the staying power is not there this is absolutely true because I’m cardinal dominant so it’s like I I tend to start something and then my staying power also not the best i’m guilty of it myself yeah which is why um then for the cardinal people I would say what works is that you have short bursts of action so for example if there’s a performance that you are gunning for and that performance is in two or three months time so then that person can be motivated to put everything into that performance so then they will do really well at the end of it they get their you know get get their applause thank you thank you and then it it finishes until they feel motivated to do another show then they can get her again but if you expect them to for example go to a pub and then sing every Friday night for the next 15 years right uh their staying power not there one they get very bored and then after maybe at most like a year sometimes even six months then they start looking at other things really because they they need new things all the time yeah so that’s actually quite useful and if you think of there there are famous singers who are very good at working on albums so then they it’s the same concept right so they’ll pour everything into an album then they might disappear for a while and then after that they decide okay let’s go for another album then they gather their people go to the studio and then they work on a new album so that is um I think it’s about understanding what is your style what is your your pattern your ‘kuan’ right so then you sort of design the way you go about your career in the way that aligns with the person that you are yeah so the fixed person is a different type of personality as you can tell the English word fix simply means that they tend to stick with one formula and to keep it going so these people are the ones with the staying power uh the down of course the downside is that they are not as go-getter about getting opportunities than uh the cardinal people but these people work a lot better if it’s say um I’m sure you’ve heard of famous singers who start out like in a pub or something right so then they they basically get one opportunity they sing in a pub but they they kept up a consistent quality over the years so in a sense there are also you know there are singers um in in the world right now who have been singing for literally decades people like Celine Dion started when she was a teenager she’s still singing now in Las Vegas you know so it’s like Oh yes oh my goodness i think every night or like so consistently for five years three years like Yes exactly right and you know she’s done that show for years and years and years and sometimes they do the same set and you know if you’re someone like Celine Dion let’s be real here okay you spend a four figure thing to have dinner and then listen to her sing right look let’s be let’s be real here you want to hear My Heart Will Go On right you want to hear uh what Power of love right you know she sing the same bloody thing every night you know what I mean you know so it’s like but if you think about it there is a professionalism in it so you understand that this is what the audience is paying for and this is what you build your fame on the truth is you do that and a lot of these people like Rolling Stones even if you don’t pick someone as classic as as as Celine Dion the Rolling Stones a lot of them die already but a few of them die already but the point is that they are still going and people like the Beach Boys and a few other people who are still performing here and there the truth is the old fans want to hear the same thing over and over and over again but you know that’s professionalism and there are people who are successful because they maintain the same level of standard no matter how many times they sung it that week but professional talking back about the Celine Dion Las Vegas show I think is you know some people may say oh because she’s receiving so much money of course she will sing it you know if it’s me I’ll also sing it day in day out but I’m like no I don’t think it’s the money okay let’s be real here okay she doesn’t need the money now it’s the yeah she really doesn’t need it i can tell you that her her royalties from just My Heart Will Go On alone right enough for the next three generation already she don’t need the money right yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and not to mention she got a lot other hits too you know and she’s not a one hit wonder she’s got what 20 30 hits easily you know so it’s like one song alone enough for three generations she’s not doing it for the money i can tell you that and you know she got sick she got sick and she lost her voice she was battling a a serious illness and you know she’s back on stage yes you know that there’s something about how and she was very clear that I need to do this because that’s what Celin Dion does if I don’t sing I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself she said that in a in quite a famous video she said she told her audience I will do everything to get back to what I have been doing right and she did you know so basically you have the the people who are the fixed people uh and because uh I’m so familiar with musical theater and you know how uh if you go on uh London’s west end if you go to New York on Broadway some of the famous shows they go on for years and years yeah and I tell you another thing that I do know because I’m I used to be musical theater sometimes there’s an afternoon show i cannot imagine doing this i I cannot I can’t and if you’ve ever seen a musical each one of those major productions it runs for two to three hours each time and if you are the main if you are the lead singer you basically sing for almost the entire musical from beginning to end with multiple costume changes and stunts and dancing and all that stuff and they do it twice a day for five years in a row with one day one off day per per week you know what I mean and and on that one off day when your understudy shows up everybody complains because they want to see you they pay money and they want to see the star so when they kenna (get) the understudy then they all come kao-peh (complain) right you know so the the point is that the fixed person there’s something about people like that and um and that’s what they want is the stability and they get this mastery they play this role so well and they do it for years and years and years consistency is their thing and then you get the mutable people so the mutable people are more adaptable so that means uh they don’t they are not necessarily the go-getters and they don’t always want to sing the same thing so if you think about how uh there are some performers even singers who they don’t just sing so basically they they sometimes drift a bit into acting and some of them are dancers too uh and some some singers make their mark doing covers for example so that means and and they they do things like they go on movies for example and then they they play uh they play characters who sing songs and sometimes they end up singing things like Mama Mia or they end up doing um various types of like song and dance sort of thing if you are in very uh entertainment shows like you know like in the style of the Saturday Night Live sort of thing where you might sing different things some people do parodies and that kind of stuff so there’s there’s a there’s a adaptability so they don’t want to be Celine Dion because to them that’s very boring like keep singing the same 20 songs for like 35 years right so they don’t want to do that so in fact what they want is a variety so they don’t mind doing traveling shows and then when they sick of that then they will just change and do a TV show and then sometimes they they feel like doing a two month st in a pub and hello everybody I’m doing a two month stint come catch me at this place so there’s this changeability so sometimes when they see already they might decide to be a teacher for a while so it’s like so the mutable people don’t want to do Celine Dion and and they are not the pushy kind of person so so Taylor Swift for example is the pushy type so she’s she’s the cardinal type which is why um she’s done a lot of shoving herself into the face of like many record companies and Taylor Swift does things on her terms so it’s like if she starts something is I can tell you she’s the one who started it right so she doesn’t follow like other people’s instruction she’s the one giving instructions so it’s like um which is why uh I think so to sum up I don’t think that the cardinal fix mutable thing tells you about the style of singing but it’s a style of of going going about building a career in music and I think that’s important because um I think some people may feel like oh I’m not go-getter enough and but then there’s other things for you to do that you can really thrive and feel happy about and um I think it also affects the learning style i feel that my fixed or I mean of course I don’t read their growth charts but what I mean is I can feel the energies because you know if I know for a fact that the people who really practice and they’re very consistent I see them one week apart I can hear the difference you know because I know they practiced so the very consistent uh fixed sign they will actually really go and practice uh but the more cardinal people maybe they will like be very excited after my lesson right but then they may not practice or they may not practice throughout the semester you know and okay maybe okay it sounds like a consult now but I’m just wondering from the singing teachers point of view how would you suggest I manage these kind of different styles of learning uh you know mode like what would you suggest well I mean if you if you have like cardinal people for example as I sort of suggested just now right they work really really hard when there’s something to work for m so you have to give them like a like there’s a there’s an end goal there’s something that we want to get at right so which means if there’s a if there’s a show they will practice if there’s a date that’s already been set in a in a recording studio and they have to pay like you know $2,000 to book the studio for a day or whatever right let me tell you they will practice right because then they they don’t want to go into the recording studio and then produce some garbble gobbly stuff right so the thing is they want to sound you want to sound good on that recording I think you should work hard and trust me they will right so that’s so true because I think when I have my students recital suddenly a lot of people will show up they’ll sign up for lessons practice consistently yes okay so so the cardinal people they they need they need a war to win basically right so that’s how you motivate them now the fixed people are the ones who are happy to maintain um like like a mastery right so then for those people um depending on of course uh I I’m not in the industry anymore but I I suppose at some point a person might be good enough to potentially try to get themselves a gig of some sort so in in Singapore the easiest way probably is that there are some music venues where they do need singers on a on a like fairly fairly regular basis regular basis yeah yeah and I suppose if you sing at night is even technically possible for someone to have a full-time job and still sing at pubs right so when when I used to be active in musical theater I did know some of the practitioners who actually had full-time jobs but then because they perform on weekends and evenings it’s technically possible to do both right so you don’t have to quit your job to do it unless you’re confident that you want to commit to it then by all means right but I think it’s possible i’ve seen people do it and then of course then the mutable people is more like I think then the teacher needs to know that they need variety so then of course if if they have to sing the same song 10 times then you see the attention is not really there already yeah so sometimes it might be good to have like maybe u my suggestion I would be say a a mini repertoa of uh of of music that’s um sort of like interchangeable yeah so so that might you know spice things up a bit maybe yeah i think this is very good information not just for me but for my students watching because they may get an inkling of like oh I think I’m that kind of person you know and they may go and find their own competitions you know to join to spur themselves on or you know to try to find some gig opportunities for continuity yeah I think that’s that’s very helpful yeah um now let’s talk about expressiveness because um I think one common grouse amongst my students right is that they keep thinking um why is it that other people are so confident on stage but I’m like so awkward and I don’t dare to sing you know like this kind of stuff right is it visible on the birth chart and how would you encourage people to you know to transform themselves from the point of view there is birth chart and there’s also um sometimes confidence and and I get asked a lot about confidence in general and not just for singing it’s confidence for all sorts of things right confidence comes when there’s success if you think about how nobody ever asks um am I confident enough to brush teeth on my own you know you would never ask anything like that because you successfully brush your teeth every day but you know anybody who’s ever had a toddler and I know I know Bevlyn has it’s like there is a point in your life where the toddler is not entirely sure that if mommy is not around I I can brush my teeth on my own you know why because your kid has never successfully brushed his teeth on his own before but once they done it like 10 times they they actually kind of annoyed that you’re there like mommy knows the bathroom like I can do this like go away right right so basically the the simple answer to confidence which is nothing to do with astrology is that you are confident of doing things that you have done successfully before you done it 10 times successfully yourself before you you kind of you you’re annoyed that somebody’s trying to help you right so it’s like and it applies to everything so for example I I don’t cook right and and on the very very rare like once a century occasion where May decides to cook something I can tell you I’m scared like from top to bottom I I’m so I I’m so convinced I’m going to mess it up but then there are people among your students and and your listeners who cook every day and then they will look at me and go like this silly girl you know it’s like how difficult can it be but I’m freaked out you know i’m I’m sure I’m going to burn the house down you know so basically you see confidence usually comes from success which means if you never try you will never be confident so basically if you think that if you sit around facing your four walls that one day you’re going to get confident or there’s some magic transit or some magic uh people who like astrology right they ask me oh is that can you see from my chart like when will I be confident the answer is never if you never try. You try and you’re successful 10 times you will be confident right so it’s like so if I look confident in front of the camera it’s because I’m in front of the freaking camera every day every day I’m in front of the camera so it’s like of course I’m comfortable right so um and and That’s I I think people just need to put themselves out there okay i think I get I think I get what you’re trying to say because it’s easy to be fatalistic to look at a birth chart and say well because your sun is in the eighth house you know so uh I think it’s quite hard for you to make it you know that kind of stuff right but that’s not what you want to tell people you want to say actually if you find it difficult yes we we all have innate you know like weaknesses but actually you just have to put in more effort to expose yourself to it and yes that’s I also want to be fair I also want to be fair in the sense that the chart does suggest that there are people who are more comfortable with being on camera and on stage and in a recording studio and a lot of it has to do with the with a particular thing in the chart known as the Sun okay so the the sun some of the key themes associated with it is expression and if you think of the I mean even the sun in the sky right is like this thing that has this warmth and energy that radiates out from a a core point and this is relevant to performing because that’s essentially what a performer is and that’s why we associate performers with being stars because the sun actually is a star right so it radiates its own light so is there such a thing as a sun being strong in a person’s chart uh in the sense that it resonates more strongly with them so for some people what resonates with them is being a supportive role so they they prefer to be backstage and helping out with things and then there are people who are more confident being on stage being the star so they don’t want to play a supporting role for example look at someone like Barack Obama can you imagine Barack Obama being number two or is Obama always going to want to be the star and you know he strolls onto the stage and you just know that you know he’s he’s a star right so are there people like that I have to I have to say yes having said that there’s also a downside I’m sure you’ve heard that a lot of performers who are very successful they are divas oh my god they are absolute ego bastards right you know what I mean so they look for things in their dressing room then it’s like why is it this color I always come late you know the kind of attitude you know everybody will wait for It’s like you know the all the recording studio they’re like "Okay everybody is there they’re ready to go but the star’s not here." Yeah it’s like "Wait for her to like do her makeup or whatever right she’ll take her own sweet time go eat pizza or something." But my point here is that so basically for everything in the chart there’s always an upside and a downside so are there people who really enjoy the attention i’m sure even when you’re at school there’s always that kid over there who just has to do things very AA very attract attention right there’s always that person and is that person more comfortable in front of the camera they think they’re awesome and it’s like you know you should all look at my face it’s like there’s always that person yes okay so that so do those people is it true that for them the barrier to to facing an audience is lower yes it is and then of course then there are the people who are more comfortable backstage you know they are more comfortable plugging in things and making sure we’re on the correct page and that kind of stuff that um for those people is is the barrier higher yes it is higher so they they are going to have a bit of a of a tougher time so uh astrology can show who might be more comfortable um but having said that you know it still stands isn’t it that confidence in general just comes with practice it just comes with having you done this thing many times in a row and if you if you ask me you know sometimes it’s very silly things like taking taking the train in Singapore there are people who are so scared of taking the train because they’ve never done it right so Bevlyn you have a son right and so at some point he was very scared if you ask him to go and take MRT by himself without mommy at some point he does freak out he’ll pretend to be like courageous but he’s actually really scared and mommy knows right but the thing is he’s done it a few times it’s like can you honestly say that we can look into the astrology chart and see who are the type of people who are very confident taking MRT you know but but the thing is there’s no such thing right but at some point somebody’s going to have to learn and it’s the same thing with just about everything so some people are just more ballsy than others is true um but I don’t think it’s an insurmountable barrier yeah what about I mean what we just discussed is like being comfortable in the limelight but what about expressiveness because I think the other main thing that my students complain about themselves is that they sound unemotional they sound robotic or they are just so worried of like singing and then they start crying because they are so expressive they’ve never been in touch with that part of their you know emotions before and it’s a bit overwhelming they can’t I mean how do you um encourage these people or how I mean can you see that in birth chart like Yes yes you can you absolutely can so um you are actually describing people on two extreme spectrums so if you got the robotic people who are not expressive at all and then there are the people who start crying because then they are in in their feeling too expressive right so that there the let’s address the robotic people first okay so I think in general there is a the barrier comes from being embarrassed about your emotions so basically it’s like you know when people are singing with full expression there are facial expressions on your face yeah so so so if it’s an angry song for example then you find that you know you’ve seen opera singers do it they’re like like this you know their face is very expressive and then there are people who are in love and then they they they’re very expressive in in this particular way and you know then I mean if you want to joke about them then it looks their face looks like you know they are enjoying something else right but but the thing is I mean but you know the purpose of singing and in fact the whole background and the reason for why people express themselves in song is because this is human emotion and in fact the rawer the better because then it’s it’s most songs are about things like love and disappointment and hope and faith and all that stuff right so basically that this is a natural human emotion but I think if if somebody ends up being very robotic sometimes it’s because you’re embarrassed about about showing an expression on your face that that I should allow other people to see something that is so raw and so personal so that’s why uh the the thing that I’m looking for in the chart is a different one from the sun this is not about expression this is about emotional honesty and that’s why the moon is involved here so there are certain profiles so when I when I talk about profiles I’m talking about uh psychological astrology they’re actually 25 profiles and an average person can I stop you here first because I think I want to acknowledge your your uh genius you came out with the psychological astrology yes I did at least the this particular matrix of 25 profiles yeah yeah and then I think it’s amazing you know because um how do I say this you’re actually the first Singaporean to go to have a degree in astrology but not only that you invented this whole matrix of psychological astrology and uh I mean because I’ve been through your lessons I think it’s it’s really genius you know it it it even goes to like okay the possibility of you having this profile is because you know in your childhood your mother is like that or your father is like that and it’s so accurate and I think it also helped me to cure some cure you know some of my wounds you know because I was wondering why am I like that you know like okay so for my profile is I’m not somebody who cries easily I’m not easily touched you know I you know from young my mother always say why your heart is like metal, made of metal kind of feeling yeah stone cone right yeah then as I grow older I need to actually learn empathy i actually need to learn how to feel concerned i’m not evil or anything it’s just that it doesn’t come naturally to me you know i have to learn to be more human and coming from that space right how do I put emotions into my singing it’s actually a journey in itself because when I record myself I sound I I sounded like a robot back then yeah yeah i I I think also um so there’s a specific profile that you are referring to which incidentally I also have so both it just happens that both Bevlyn and I have moon in the sign of Capricorn so both of us we we have different astrology signs but our moons are in Capricorn both of us and uh the nature of this it it on one level it describes the mother but it also describes your upbringing and out of out of curiosity because I don’t remember be are you the are you the big sister at home yes so you’re the eldest you’re the eldest daughter right so am I so So the thing the thing that comes up with moon in Capricorn quite often is that uh these are typically the eldest child or if they are not then they will tell you things that oh I might as well be because then you know sometimes you get a number two or number three person who ends up taking care of the of the siblings so in a sense what happens with the eldest child is that you you almost are I don’t use a very strong word but it’s almost like you are robbed of being that childish tantrum kid it is your younger siblings who gets to throw a tantrum on the floor and you’re the one who sort of drags the kid away because then that kid is disturbing your parents right so you end up becoming sort of like a guardian of the of the younger siblings did you experience this yeah yeah i mean I feel like I’m always the one who is expected to have responsibilities to behave well and to manage my own affairs even though I was very young yeah yeah but you know it happens in small things too imagine you’re at a shopping mall and then you see some soft toy thing that you secretly think is very cute and and what you really wanted to your inner child wants to sort of run to it and hug the soft toy and ask your mother whether you can buy it you know but but the thing is because you’re the big sister because you’re not supposed to act so childish it’s it’s almost like you think that if you did it your mom’s going to look at you and like why are you behaving so childishly like grow up behave yourself you know so it if you tried it you might have gotten that response maybe once and then after that you were so terrified of it then you just decided not to act like a kid anymore so you became like this little adult in a sense that so now you start to build this like you know this prison walls around the raw emotion so that means if you wanted to to sort of throw a tantrum but you know you can’t so then you you just keep it Right and then and if you wanted to um go to your mother and cry and say "Okay I failed this test can you help me please?" But you know you kind of don’t so then you just sort of go to your room and try to improve for the next test and you do it all by yourself because independence yeah because you don’t want to bother them yeah so that that happens to a lot of people it happened to me also so I I’m also a moon in a moon in Capricorn so this particular profile in in my little matrix is called the Caretaker so these these people are groomed from young maybe not deliberately by the parents it’s just by circumstances uh and sometimes by our own personality also because technically you could still be the tantrum childish uh person if you wanted to. Yah possible. Right? and I’ve seen eldest kids just as childish as everybody else but it just happens that because of the way our birth charts are uh wired right basically that’s that’s how you’re wired how you’re programmed and which means that when you were given an opportunity you embrace the opportunity to be a leader and to take care of people and to put other people’s um you know needs first so that that makes some people like so in the in I I guess you know we both ended up being teachers who look after people’s welfares right so in that sense that’s the comfortable position but it doesn’t gel with you being on stage and being like oh like you know dancing like this it’s it’s a it doesn’t feel natural to you because that’s not how you were brought up if that makes sense to you yeah so that I I would suppose for for many of the students who resonate with your teaching style might very well have the same profile as us that’s the way it is right because we only attract people who are the similar quan as us it’s so true because um I think in my personal journey from young I’ve always wanted to be a singer it’s like my number one thing i just kept quiet about it but I knew I wanted to be a singer and once I achieved the dream and I did it for a few years I realized that it why am I so serious i’m a very serious singer I can try to be fun you know but my core is still very serious i can’t tell jokes as easily as other people they’re just silly and they can let go and but not me you know because of my moon in Capricorn thingy i realized that it actually teaching gives me more satisfaction yeah but but if I may right uh one of the backbones of psychological astrology and if I may sort of toot my own horn right one of the reasons why my students rave so much about about PA psychological astrology is how we use that logic to be able to turn it around and to release some of these um you know the crappy things that we tell ourselves in our head right so let’s go with this particular profile the categorical especially if a lot of your students have it and they end up becoming robotic right and I think it’s because a lot of the conversation is is here is about me and myself so which means if I go on stage and I have this kind of expression on my face right are people going to look at me as like that crazy woman why she got that funny like expression on her face like so orgasmic like that right so it’s like you’re so terrified of what people are going to say about you because if if we are being honest this is a very self-centered approach to things right because the the nature of a performer is such that there is a function that you that you are performing at that at that moment right either you are the entertainment for the night or perhaps you are conveying some kind of uh of of a message in your song for example so you have a job to do but all you’re thinking about is like how people are looking at my face me me I I I is it’s all about you right which doesn’t make any sense because the whole point is you’re not going up there to prove a point to anybody you’re you’re there to do your job and to perform your function right so which is why so we turn it around and one of the reasons why uh some people may be wondering hey I thought May also have this profile how come May doesn’t have problem doing this kind of crazy thing on camera right and and the answer is very simple okay so if you think of it as right now you have this profile and and you need to put you need to perform a function now I’m very clear what my function is today right as you answer as you ask me this question is that my role today is to show people that your your raw emotion is what you are supposed to put on stage because if you’re singing a song about a terrible breakup right it is like your face cannot look like I am singing about a breakup song that’s what I say all the time like it’s not convincing you look like a psycho person yeah it’s like then you might be reading you might be reading up like you know election results or something right you know it doesn’t make sense so which means if you if you’re going through a breakup the your job on stage you’re there to do a job right is to convey the emotions behind lost love that’s the whole point right so you go up there and you do your job right so if you are singing about lost love then your face should look like like this you know you you you kind of need to do that it’s like you know to be convincing yeah yeah and also it’s like you know once you think of it as and and what I’ve realized over time uh for myself as a performer that when I can break my my barriers to being expressive if I need to be right on stage because that’s the role I’m supposed to play i I’ve realized that it releases other people to be expressive as well so if I can be raw with my emotion if I sing breakup song right the idea is that if there are people in the audience who are moved to tears for example they are moved to tears because of the rawness of the emotion and you know they’re not really moved because my voice was perfect and I’m on pitch you know what I’m saying yeah it’s like you know you can watch some of the best performers Andrea Bocchelli for example and it’s like yes technically he’s one of the best singers ever lived that one hands down but when when you if you’ve ever heard him sing life which which I have you don’t you don’t cry and you don’t make a fool of yourself on your face you know crying at his voice not because of his technique you cry because of the emotion that he is conveying and that rawness and the beauty behind the emotion you know it’s like um I think that’s what moves the audience and that’s what makes him a great singer not because his technique is good the technique is part of his job his professional job but but what makes him go down in history is the emotion and he he’s maybe you can say he’s blind he can’t see or whatever but the point is that he is very expressive on his face if you watched him perform before Yeah what about the other spectrum of people the people who hold back their tears when they Okay so actually it sounds it sounds like two different things but actually it’s the same okay so for example they sing this song right say they sing breakup song then they end up crying all over right the truth is they they forgot that you’re supposed to be on stage doing a job so then they cry because they start remembering their own breakup they start they start remembering how it feels like to be abandoned by somebody that you love or they feel so touched by the lyrics you know that you know that K drama it could be it could be but the thing is then you see the conversation again is about you right is about you and and what you’re enjoying from that song but hey friend you’re supposed to be on stage doing your job like right so so which means that what I mean if they cry it’s fine there there are singers who can cry um but then they can still continue doing their job now that’s fine I’ve seen singers do that on stage before at concerts and that kind of stuff right but then um there are people who cry then after that your voice breaks then you end up not doing your job really they cannot sing already then then that’s when it’s quite unprofessional so again it comes back to me me myself and I and and so basically once we start to realize that where if you want to be a professional what you do is not for you it’s for them it’s for the audience always yeah and I think that happens to uh because you and I Bevlyn we are in professions that are associated with hobby and it’s associated with um expression and if I’m if I’m being frank some level of selfishness because it’s about hobby right i mean we people sing because they enjoy it people go and do astrology because it’s their hobby and and they’re so happy it’s like basically they do it to make me happy me I want to be happy and that’s fine if it’s a hobby because if you like to do crossstitch because you like it that’s fine but you know if you are doing it as a as a profession you cannot just stitch what you like you have to stitch what other people want to buy right so it’s the same thing if you want to sing for a living you kind of have to sing in a way that other people want to hear and and you have to produce a a result for people otherwise how are you going to get paid right people don’t pay you to enjoy yourself people pay you so that they enjoy themselves so I think there’s a huge difference between um even for you and me because I I think our students are in a spectrum of the hobby the hobbyist and and the persons who want to do it for a living and I think the commitment level understandably is different like you play golf for fun or if you want to be tiger woods is a different story yeah so I I think uh for the people who want to be truly good master performers uh then it needs to be very clear that the performance is not for you it’s for them it’s not for you to prove to people that you’re a good singer and I think that’s why so many of your students freak out about whether are they good enough are they blah blah blah but you know when you’re on stage and all you can think about is yourself that’s what makes you a bad performer the good performer understands you have to be whatever you need to be so that the audience is enjoying themselves not you yes you whether you I mean I hope for your sake you enjoy yourself but that’s not the point right i mean it’s true when I was a professional singer um especially when I was singing in like weddings and pubs right especially pubs you know for example the the hot song of the day is perfect by Ed Sheeran, then I I may have to sing it twice in the night you know then because I’m not really that kind of fixed energy then I’ll be like oh I got to sing it again didn’t you listen to it just just now like I’m feeling yeah but I’ll still do it because that’s professionalism but it doesn’t mean I’m happy to do it it’s just that I have to do it I’ll do you know yeah so I I think to be a performer is not about fulfilling your own happiness only there’s a certain degree of like you’re doing it for others yes others have happiness yeah yeah you know because my background is in musical theater right and the nature of a musical theater song even if you are playing the the lead role is that a lot of these songs involve not just that one singer it involves dancers it involves set changes right and and you might have to sing a duet or even a song that may involve four or five singers for example so which means that the rehearsals are brutal so you know everybody has their own uh style and and you have to accommodate everybody’s like timing and things like that and in some cases I I never got to that level but if I had I might have to work with an orchestra so then now you have something like 12 13 15 25 people playing music instruments live and it means that the singer cannot think about yourself it is not about your expression it is that we have to coordinate something like 25 people just to just to perform one song right so it’s like it’s your timing of where you come in where you stand because then the the light has to follow you on the stage so you cannot suka suka i feel like I feel like moving forward then you move forward you know you have to remember that you can only move forward on the second verse because then the the the lighting person will only move the spotlight in the second verse because you’re supposed to go forward into the audience so there’s like you basically you do your job within what you have to do as a as a performer but it’s not about us it’s about the fact that everything has to has to be it’s it’s a whole package in itself and maybe because my my experience as a singer was less of a like a solo singer and and that’s why it maybe it’s easier to see that you are you have a job to do and and it’s not about um it’s not about just one you yourself yeah yeah but you still have to go for training because the thing is the last thing you do is to show up for for rehearsals and not know your songs and to and to sing off key and basically you have not train yourself properly so that like basically when everybody is singing your voice gets lost because you know the the the support is not there yeah yeah so of course on your own you still have to make sure that you are delivering yeah okay so I want because we’ve been talking so long about birth chart and everything but I think people have never seen a birth chart before i’m just wondering can you show a birth chart you know any any artist or singer to to Well I’ve got one on my screen now uh I just want to make sure that you have Oh okay fantastic well I’ve got a singer on my screen now it happens to be a singer called Bevlyn Khoo okay yeah yeah so I I mean there there are a few things definitely that that describe uh somebody who might be interested in in doing performance um it doesn’t of course one of the dangers of doing this kind of analysis that then people start to wonder oh then if I don’t have this thing does this mean that I cannot be a singer which is uh complete trash okay so that’s not that’s not true uh there are as I said that there are different types of singers and and there are people who sing in different uh contexts okay but uh one some of the things in in Bevlyn’s chart that suggests singing is that first she’s got two of these planets in the fifth house so I mentioned this before that people who have planets in the fifth are are fun people so this can mean that you are a musician but it can just as easily mean that you like playing chess right so to some people playing chess is fun or or maybe you like flying drone planes around and because some people think it’s fun some people can be circus performers uh there are people who do standup comedy and so just by having planets here by itself doesn’t tell me specifically that you will be a singer but that um having a hobby or like an avenue of recreation and self-expression is is quite strong painters also belong here so of course the the nature of the planets it happens that this is the Moon and this is Venus so it gives me a sense that whatever hobby that Bevlyn has is likely to be more feminine in nature because moon is feminine and so is Venus so it tells me she’s probably not a fencer right so Oh right so I mean I’m looking for something feminine but again you know this again it could be it could be cooking for all you know maybe she likes Italian pasta and she just likes picking Italian pasta so that can be a feminine thing in the sense that it’s not like you know it’s not actionoriented it’s it’s very lifestyle um and you know the fifth house can also be other things like it could be hotels it could be resorts um theaters that somebody like Bevlyn might also find her meaning and purpose being uh like a a theater manager for example and in another life it’s possible that Bevlyn could do very well in fact she was 20 years as an agent uh for so many other artists so that’s that’s how she lasted that as long as she has well the the planet here of uh the sign here is Capricorn now Capricorn is a very elitist sign so it likes things to be high class so it’s very unlikely that she’s going to be happy being a busker at like you know Red Hill MRT with a guitar yeah i I don’t want to be a busker i want Yeah she cannot be busker because because Capricorn is a bit elitist Not that there’s nothing wrong with busking just that my energies don’t fit into the busker energy it doesn’t right so had had this been in another sign then Bevlyn might have found herself to be very comfortable entertaining people on the street or even at festivals and just you know being easy and again there’s nothing wrong with one one approach or another it just means that it’s just not Bevlyn right so what will work for her is like singing properly in a theater at a properly at a event if you put her in a nice gown and then some Miss Universe thing and then you put her in a corner then she sings some Xiao Niang Re (Little Nyonya) song uh that could work right because because the Capricorn thing is proper it needs to be properly organized it needs to be properly rehearsed i want the excellence you know the top of the tier kind of feeling you know that’s very Capricorn yeah so if you ask her to go to the studio and work hard on an album that would be a properly organized thing right so so that that would fit with Bevlyn so which means as a singer it’s not just to to know whether oh are you suited for this or am I meant to be a singer but I think a better question would be if I chose to be a singer because nobody is ever forced to be a singer if I wanted to be a singer what kind of singer would resonate best with me yeah I think that’s a much more constructive question right rather than to be fatalistic and say "Yeah this one I cannot be single or confirmed you know and I think that that doesn’t it’s very it doesn’t sit with most people right that a chart should prevent you from doing something." Yeah yeah but I think there’s a how that works for you and there’s a how that doesn’t work for you right so there’s um so her sun sun is important for somebody who you know the spotlight is going to be on you right so in Bevlyn’s case the sun is considered strong because the sun at 3° is very close to this line here that is 0 degrees so this is considered really close and it makes the sun strong okay so that there are places in the chart where the sun would be considered less strong but this would be considered strong uh especially in the seventh house where it’s about relationship and connecting to people that I know that Bevlyn is comfortable with the idea that she’s expressing herself uh for the purpose of human connection okay so I I know that this would resonate with her uh also her son is in Pisces and Pisces is a very artistic very imaginative very um dreamy sort of sign so which means that if you are singing a song and you have to embody a persona right because you can sing breakup song even if you are very happily married right or you might sing a song that is for a little child even though you might be not not a little child anymore right so it’s like she can because she can imagine herself to be in that position and to embody the the the thoughts and the considerations and the emotions right i feel like I can slip into different roles depending on what the lyrics is talking about yeah i can be angry in one song and then very romantic in one song but very mutable chameleon kind of feeling yes yes so the basically the the the Piscean sign can be a bit of a shape shifter uh and it’s and frankly it can be a bit of a storyteller as well you also have the storyteller profile the Mercury is how we communicate but communicate is more than just words and numbers communicate can be expression facial expression it can be lyrics in a song or even whether you hold the note for five seconds or you hold it for two seconds you know the the or or if you choose to let your voice break deliberately let it break at at certain points or where you choose to breathe for example is it’s all part of that communication right whether you want to show somebody who’s excited or somebody who’s like really chill right so basically the this this position is called the storyteller and storytelling can be music and you can do that even if you don’t sing you can be a erhu player and you know how some some musicians when they play you are moved to tears because the music tells you a story you can hear the story in the music you know so like that is the beauty so there I mean there are other things in the chart but my point is that um if I am given this person’s chart and I’m being told that okay this person wants to pursue a career in music then I can I can build you a picture of what type of performer this person would be and if and do I think from looking at at Bevlyn’s chart that she’s going to be like one of those you know like even if it’s 20 years earlier and they put you in some sexy dress and then they ask you to do those hip-hop like R&B sort of thing then you know sing song with Eminem then the song all sex and like swear words one you know like do I think that be is going to make it if if a if a recording company gave me a chart and say oh we’re thinking of making her into this like black pink sort of like sexy girl sort of thing it’s not going to it’s not going to work right and it’s it’s not because Bevlyn is a terrible singer it’s not because she’s not pretty but it doesn’t sit with the person that she is so even if she fake it for one performance I tell you in in two months time she will go to the producer and then she will cry and say I cannot do this anymore this is not me this is not me it’s not you right this is not me yeah yeah but can you imagine that say in in a different in a different life maybe in Singapore it’s a bit hard but I want you to imagine that this is like 200 years ago and then Bevlyn is being put in like some sort of like convent sort of place right where they make her sing like the angels right and then and all the songs are biblical songs where your your job is to tell the story of this particular girl and what she’s going through uh and and is such a different uh uh scenario from what Bevlyn has eventually built for her in this life but if you ask me could Bevlyn have done that i tell you yes right because it is done properly it’s in a nice respected esteemed convent and that people buy tickets and properly come to listen like and and they all behave themselves like no no swearing and no like fighting outside everybody Yeah everybody dress nicely and they come to to watch a church performance and then you know and and a lot of the songs are very dreamy her voice gets to fill the entire cathedral uh could Bevlyn do this yes definitely 10 out of 10 do you agree with Bevlyn i think I like the the the establishment kind of feeling and then I’m like you know the one singing and then people looking at me you know but it’s proper it’s not like I’m trying to make a fool of myself kind of feeling so 200 years ago that would have been the version of proper but nowadays it’s like basically going to a recording studio and like doing a good job right yeah so this is the same so basically what what we’re interested in is who is this person right and and what works for you not so much about whether can she or can she not uh having said that are there people who probably should never make a career in music for example I mentioned my brother has zero interest right but you know his chart also has no um no sign at all of him being a performer but to be fair my my brother has shown zero interest so if any of your students have already spent time money and effort to go and learn to be a good singer I can guarantee you it will not be the case in your chart the fact that you are even interested means that there’s something there that tells me you would like to perform and you would like to be expressive and I think the question is the how i think it’s more interesting what about showing another chart you know not just mine because I think if you show somebody more famous they may get more resonance. Famous okay let let me see if I can get more resonance uh let me see if I if there’s Lady Gaga somewhere okay let me look for entertainment and see if we can get Lady Gaga would you would you think that Lady Gaga is a different style from yours oh definitely yeah okay so um this is Lady Gaga’s chart um she she does have a few things also um okay so for example the fifth house right so just like just like Bevlyn she does have a couple of planets in the fifth house uh she also has the moon but then she also has Pluto here so here is where Pluto is the Yan Luo Wang he’s the king of the underworld so there’s something a bit dark here which Bevlyn doesn’t have right so which means uh and also both of the signs here is not Capricorn so where Bevlyn is more classy more established Lady Gaga with Scorpio the emotions are more raw and there’s something a little bit more sexy about Scorpio it is associated with sexual connections uh so basically this is the reason why when Lady Gaga first came out I’m sure the people who are old enough to remember was she was once sex bomb when she first came out right so and she’s a she’s a very very uh good dancer so and and a lot of it is uh and her early songs were about abuse they they still are actually so her the the content of the songs the message that she wants to share is also about people who have been bullied uh people who and even the kind of love song she’s singing it’s not the nice nice like I love you love me kind of her songs are bit intense one you know it’s about people hurting each other yeah I give you disease then know yeah yeah I want your ugly I want your disease you know like seriously right so there’s something of the animal instinct if you’ve seen her her dance moves it’s not the nice jazz like ballet dance move her dance moves are like she’s like an animal going like like this you know yeah so there’s something very intense about Lady Gaga Yeah and which is why if again if if this was like 30 years ago right and if the recording company brought her chart and for us to analyze and they said like "Okay maybe they wanted to give her some nice Charlotte kind of like church song." I’m like "No freaking way." Right like no seriously pair her with some rapper and like pair her with people who talk about guys horrible men who who slap their girlfriends around and to sing songs standing up for we don’t we don’t condone this kind of behavior okay Lady Gaga this one can right so it’s like rap music with some swear words here and there she might still be able to do it right so that means that that is just a different style for everybody then also um she like like Bevlyn she also has Mercury in Pisces so that gives makes her a good storyteller as well so uh the difference of course is that Bevlyn had hers in the seventh house so I think Bevlyn prefers more intimate sort of performances where you feel like you are telling someone this story the difference is that Lady Gaga has Mercury in the 10th house so the 10th is much as a much more public sort of arena and uh which is why somebody like Lady Gaga would be very happy in like you know the kind of arenas got like 50,000 people Super Bowl and that kind of stuff uh it would it would resonate with Lady Gaga not saying that she doesn’t get stage fright but I think the idea that she’s she’s singing to like 5 million people across the world is not a scary thing for her yeah not as she would want that for herself like she’ll feel comfortable in that sense like you know compared to a maybe a smaller audience yeah Gaga doesn’t do so well with like tiny little audiences but you know there are there are people who are happy singing in pubs where you know on a on a choir evening there’s maybe 25 people there you know but they they like singing something that’s a little bit more personal something uh and they don’t mind if people want to come shake their hand or like you know um maybe somebody wants to do a duet with them they’re like "Oh come on up." Right join join me in this song you know so something more personal but not not Gaga right so Lady Gaga she doesn’t mind 5 million people on YouTube watching her streaming live you know that kind of stuff she’s okay with that uh she also has Jupiter very near to the mid heaven and uh I think for Lady Gaga having a cause is very important something to fight for and that’s why a lot of her songs are about bullying and abuse in relationships because in a sense it’s a bit like an education tool you know it’s basically a woman telling the world that I don’t think it’s okay that you treat people like this you know so she has a it’s not really a political message but there’s an ethical message behind her music which not so strongly in Bevlyn’s chart so Bevlyn is more of like the artistry but I think for Lady Gaga if you ask her to sing just nine songs she’ll tell you no I I want my songs to mean something i want to change something in the world and that’s why it’s like um then then this is about meaning and purpose right what what is your objective in being a singer perhaps for for Gaga it’s not so much that she just want you to admire her her singing voice but she wanted the songs to have a reason behind why we sing this song yeah uh she’s also a bit of a cardinal personality uh she’s actually mutable dominant but uh her sun is an Aries so you know she’s like mama monster she’s like she’s like bit more of a pushy personality you know like she’ll show up at some award show with a meat dress or whatever it’s like she’s kind of in your face if you know what I mean she wants to be the center of attention yeah she’s like "Look at me everybody." Right it’s like she she doesn’t mind wearing all the crazy woman clothing and like you know she looks like a like a mad woman half the time right her fashion sense a bit a bit but but the fact is she wants to grab your attention and she wants to be a bit annoying because that’s part of her her entire expression but it works for her it works really really well for her but it will not work for Bevlyn yeah you will look you will look pretty ridiculous wearing most of the things that she wear right i mean no no you would not you will not because it’s not you it’s not you yeah and I found it fascinating because once you know your birth chart um whether you are somebody who’s trying to de develop yourself as an artist or to put yourself online to or to cover some songs you know or to write original songs I think knowing your birth chart gives you a kind of affirmation to what you should pursue because sometimes people get a bit lost they may feel some kind of inkling to I think I like to do this but they’re not very sure kind of feeling but I think above chart actually really shows what you could or you would excel in can I say that yeah of course of course i think what resonates with you and the role where you can contribute because again I think sometimes one of the dangers right and I I get it because if you are new to something you you want some kind of assurance that oh I’m meant to do this and most people think of meant to do this as I confirm succeed and uh and as an astrologer with a lot of experience I’m sorry to disappoint most people that the chart will never tell you that you are guaranteed to succeed in something because if you look at People like Warren Buffett you can say he’s been successful but you know there have been quarters where he didn’t make money either and people like that they can lose millions even billions in a day right so when you say this person is successful what do you mean right because there are there are singles who were very hot when they were younger and then in their later age then it just went to trash for them look at in Houston she became a a drug addict so would you say she was successful or or eventually she was not right so the the the reality is that I don’t I think the the purpose is to find out like will I be successful am I going to make it but rather what do you bring to the table what can I bring to the table based on my strengths and weaknesses yes yes yeah and and giving a bit of respect to the individual and what what is natural for them to give then then you give what is natural for you to give but natural does not mean that you will naturally be successful because then when we think of success we think of how many million dollars you’re going to make how many awards you’re going to win and no chart is ever going to guarantee that you’re going to get a Grammy award so it does it doesn’t work that way millions and millions of very good singers around the world have never come anywhere near a Grammy award right yeah it’s like the potential could be there like you know but whether as a as a person you are going to work you want to work for it or not you know or be uh you know to take actions you know that really depends on yourself right right that’s where and and the most guaranteed way to guarantee that you are not going to make it is if you keep reading the chart and then never go out and sing never go out and put yourself out there never take a risk uh don’t sing 500 songs then uh it guarantees you are never getting there right so even as an astrologer I think it’s a fantastic tool but uh there is such a thing as potentially uh and why some people have objections to astrology is that you start to wonder if if are we now creating like this self-fulfilling prophecy or whichever uh and I even as somebody who defends astrology I can tell you that will happen because if people spend too much time trying to squeeze some kind of like guarantee out of the chart um then it’s an obsession about about you you you me me I I it’s all about you again right so but the thing is the person who puts themselves on stage is the one who ask am I am I bringing a good time to the audience today right did I do my job today yeah rather than will the audience give me what I want right again it’s about us recognition the likes you know the love that kind of stuff you know will I be famous singing if you are singing to get validation for yourself then uh then you can sing karaoke at home right but but the thing is if we are going to be in front of an audience if you want people to spend their time their money their effort to come and listen to us uh then you must make sure that you are meeting their needs not yours i think that’s that’s fair right yeah it’s why Celine is still is still singing in Las Vegas after being sick cos it’s not about her yeah i know the interview is getting long now but I really want to get into the north node because I feel that uh a lot of my students you know um they come to me pretty late in life and the common story is you know when I was young my family maybe couldn’t afford to send me to music lessons you know but I love singing and now I have the money i really want to sing better you know that kind of stuff so um it just made me wonder knowing astrology like do you think there’s some kind of um I don’t know like late stage development in some people and you know we shouldn’t discount them because I started realizing that hey actually some of them follow me for so long they sing pretty well you know some sing actually better than my college students who pay a lot of money to say I want to be a singer you know my effort is not the same you know so my private students can actually sing better and I push them to get gigs nowadays Yeah and they are not young they are in their 40s late 30s Yeah and and it just want I just wonder like from astrology point of view how would you explain that you know okay you mentioned the north node and I don’t think that would be the place I would go because because we if if you if we are connecting with the north node right yeah and maybe I should explain that the north node is sort of like one one of the things in the chart that shows uh purpose right for for lack of a better word it’s a very simplistic way of describing it but um we are assuming then that a person’s entire purpose in life is to sing and uh I don’t think that would be accurate for the majority of performance it just happens that I have Lady Gaga’s chart on my screen right now and you know her north node is in the 11th house and uh the 11 is for things like community and so for for the kind of success that Lady Gaga has gotten her chart does not say that her purpose is to be the world world’s most famous singer her chart tells me that what she wants to do is to transform a community she wants to she wants the every people every person in a community to know that they are of value because I see Taurus here is about valuing a community valuing the individual not famous regular person right so the thing is um she might have started from singing and dancing because the fifth house is about performance performance and the south note pointing south is about where what is natural and easy for a person and maybe you might admire Lady Gaga for being such a natural performer and she is to to a large extent right but the thing is she her purpose in life is to get away from that and to move more into okay great so I’m a famous singer but then what right what do I do to make myself mean something and then for her it’s about so for all this singing all this money that I’m making have I moved the needle on how society is valuing people right so basically um that’s why I think that the north node is not uh is not a good way of um finding a one sentence answer is like yeah you are meant to be a singer because even my chart doesn’t say I’m meant to be an astrologer my chart says psychology but I’m an astrologer right so her chart says community humanitarian but she’s a singer right so I don’t think if people are looking for like oh oh it match a equals b sort of thing it doesn’t work that way yeah but um but to answer your deeper question about uh what happens if somebody is like an older an older beginner the reality is you have to decide for yourself what’s the end game here right so in in a actual client consultation and I think sometimes it’s tempting to go to the chart and and feel like the chart will tell me what to do but it doesn’t just like a map doesn’t tell you where to go you must first decide where you want to go then the the map shows you what is the best way to get there but the map doesn’t you can’t look at the map and say oh the map say I need to go there it doesn’t it doesn’t work that way so for if you are starting when you’re 46 for example Okay if you tell me you want to be like a rap artist you want to be like like like Blackpink um you have to be realistic okay you’re very unlikely to to to I mean and and frankly if you are 46 years old did you really want to be Blackpink right and then do all the sexy moves on stage i I don’t think that’s where you’re aiming for so then the question here is what are you aiming for did you want a gig in a in in a performance venue did you want to be uh like a recording artist like Andre Boccelli so you have to first decide where you want to go so if if you’re happy just knowing that you are a good singer and you don’t really care whether you get standing ovations then by all means go for a class sing for your own pleasure sing for your family members at Christmas or something uh and be done with it right so if if that pleases you then that pleases you right if you want to cut an album you can Bevlyn’s done it before you can go ask her for context she will tell you what number to call what to prepare before you before you go record uh yourself and also to decide what you going to do with the recording after that right you want to put it in your CD now people don’t listen to CD anymore but you know it’s an image right you you you have a CD player you stick it into your your device and then you want to listen to it all the time like you record an album what was the expectation here right did you expect to be played on radio for example did you expect to get invited to sing at the National Day Parade so there are depending on what your answer is then there is there are things that we logically have to do to get there isn’t it right yeah you you want to have a concert with 10,000 people watching you then there are things that you kind of have to do right and being on stage is one of them isn’t it putting yourself on TikTok is one of them isn’t it you kind of have to right otherwise singing in your living room is not going to get you an audience of 10,000 people so I want to do this uh rapid round session with you because my students actually you know have a lot of of questions sure for you um I’m not sure um if you may find some of these a bit funny but go ahead go ahead come across you know some of them before already uh but in quick replies okay yeah yeah no problem i I know rapid fire in terms of like as a performer or astrologer how would you answer them you know I think this is the fun part okay so let’s of course of course let’s go question one why is it some people are so comfortable on stage but I find it awkward very simple they have a lot of experience they done it a 100 times and if it’s your first time that’s the that’s the kid on the bicycle for the first time very good question two why do some people get so high performing on stage but I feel so drained after that uh because they are focused on the audience and so basically what what gets them high is the fact that the that they are bringing pleasure to the audience but if you if you feel drained is because you are so stressed that you are not doing well and uh basically your conversation is about yourself which is focusing on yourself yes which is and if you look at people who are really wonderful to to watch on stage you’ll realize that everything they do is for the audience it’s not for themselves yeah that’s true okay question three why do some people sing with so much emotions in front of an audience you know they they can be vulnerable but I just feel so guarded this goes back to what we discussed earlier about the caretaker profile so if if you feel like you’re embarrassed about having showing emotions and this can come from a psychological profile it comes from upbringing whether or not as a child you felt okay to throw a tantrum whether you felt okay to like act cute in front of your mother and if you found that all of this was like kind of not okay or you your family was not the kind that allowed you to be like that um and going back to my my answer for question one is that you just simply have less practice showing your emotion yeah and also I think um again also on my answer for question two is that the whole conversation in your head is about are people looking at my face and are they like judging my emotions yeah but it’s all about me me I I I I but the thing is a good singer knows that you have to put emotion on your face because that’s what is part of the storytelling that you help the audience to uh receive the meaning that you have you must convey it and if you don’t convey it then there’s no message at all great okay question four my favorite why do some people think they sing very well when they obviously don’t well it depends on what what we say when it’s obviously right i mean um there are there’s a reason why there are there are many famous uh singers who are technically not very good singers really i mean there there are people who sing with a lot of swear words and then they they tend to scream and shout in their thing but you know when they have concerts you know 10,000 people bought tickets to go and watch them right so I I think there’s a subjective idea of what is what is good and what is not good basically just as with fashion right I mean you watch some of these London Paris fashion shows some of them they they look a bit crazy right the the fashion just doesn’t but you know there are people who fork out like you know five six figures to buy insane clothing right and so uh I think it’s a subjective thing perhaps uh and also um if they think they sing very well I I think another okay I go deeper into psychology notice Notice that this question also suggests that the speaker is very annoyed and very disturbed by the fact that this other person is singing and then they they they think that they’re very good uh I think sometimes psychologically if we go a bit deeper sometimes it comes from the fact like how come you so lousy then you dare to sing but then I’m very good but then I don’t dare to sing so I think what what might what might disturb you more is not part one but I think it is part two which is that I am pretty convinced I’m better than you but even at my level I don’t dare to sing or I think I know I can sing pretty well but I’m not as showy as the people who doesn’t sing as well as me yeah but that’s self glorification isn’t it it’s like oh I I have the I have the finesse to know that don’t makes much noise but you oh my god you are terrible and then you’re still there dare to sing right so there’s a self- glorification there and then your compensatory behaviour is that you just decided not to perform so then now you have a you have a basically it’s a self-limiting outcome because the the end game is you never perform so if you think that there are very lousy singers out there maybe you should contribute to the the repertoire of good singers and sing more so that 99 good singers and one terrible singer right okay but if I give you another scenario because there really are people like for example American Idol you know they they really cannot sing but they can challenge Simon Cowell to say you know nothing about music so how do you explain about these people i mean the the the truth is maybe they really do think that they are very good i mean if you can judge yourself to be good how come other people cannot judge themselves to be good you know what I’m saying uh and for what it’s worth they had the courage to go on American Idol they have the courage to stand up for themselves when Simon says you’re terrible and and then the other question we want to ask ourselves is that do you have the courage to go on American idol and say "Well here’s an example of what good singing sounds like." And if Simon Cowell has something nasty to say about your voice do you have the courage to say "Well Simon that’s your opinion but I think I’m a good singer." You know what I’m saying like how how so few of us don’t exactly have even half the courage to do what those people have done i’m not saying I I it’s actually it’s actually bravery isn’t it it’s like you know whether well at least I can say they probably believe in themselves more than a lot of us whether you think you are good or bad i mean obviously if you go you think you are pretty okay but the idea of facing rejection is quite scary for most people but for the people who go there thinking they are good like, but you know think about it guys I mean the idea of performing is is about the audience isn’t it because the only difference between singing in your shower and singing on stage is the audience and and the thing is then what they think matters but think about how so many people are so afraid to allow other people to get an opportunity to decide whether you are good or not and which is why they stay safe and they sing in their shower because then with with no audience you’ll always be the best singer Okay next question okay so why do some performers come across as sincere but some are labeled as showing off skills I mean uh I suppose that there is usually I mean if that’s the impression that people get there’s usually some measure of truth to it so then there are the so it’s all about your motivation for going on stage right so if the if the intention is to go up there and show raw emotion and tell stories with your with your music then that’s what people get right I mean if you go there and like okay let me like 飙高音 (belt high notes) right just to prove to people that I can keep like going up one key after another then it’s very clear that this is a display of a particular skill set perhaps so I think you know we tend to think that some the audience misunderstands but I think most of us if you’ve been if you’ve like you know so knocked around life for a while you usually get a pretty good uh sensing of of what people’s intentions are when they do certain things so if if if that’s the impression you got it’s probably some truth to it actually yeah but from the astrological point of view would you say that there are certain energies that are more showing off like the person will tend to want to show off skills and then some people will just feel like not very important to show off skills i just want to touch people yeah but I think you’ll be able to see that in the birth chart or but we talked about that right so basically it’s whether or not the person is performing as a as a way to give something to the audience or or are you performing as a way to get validation because you see I I can also say a singer like Andrea Boccelli is such a show off i mean he’s he’s doing he’s doing some of the most difficult opera songs ever and you know teners are are fairly rare like a really really good tenor is really rare right for a man to be hitting those notes without using falsetto right it’s it’s a major thing he’s totally showing off he’s like biggest show off in the world right and then he sing in some of the biggest cathedrals just to prove to you that his voice will go to every corner of the cathedral right so he’s such a show off too right but then you also say he’s sincere what so you know like who’s the say? i think I get what what what you mean because um some people may look at the birth chart and say oh because you got this particular sign so I think that’s that’s your tendency you know but you’re just saying that actually whatever sign is in your birth chart yes it really depends on the person whether they want to do it for themselves or for others but you see what I can tell from the chart is whether or not you are a technical singer so some people are performing type singers but some people really care about where the muscle is where they put their tongue like you know uh how how long they they hold the vowel there are people who are the technical singers so can I tell from the chart whether this person is technical or not technical yes I can but where you have free will is that when you are singing are you an Andrea Boccelli who who hones your technical skills because you are a professional or are you the type who basically hone your technical skills just to show other people see I can do this then I want your validation right so now that part it is all you it’s all you right but but the the chart will tell me who is a naturally technical technically inclined singer okay okay Great okay next question uh wait hold on oops why are some performers popular you know they attract kids singing and dancing in you know what others make the audience feel so stoned and disengaged same answer the the people who are popular sing for the for the benefit of the audience while the the people who stone your audience and disengage them are thinking me me I am I doing it correctly why are you not smiling why are you not clapping for me right but then the the popular ones are the ones who go like "Come on guys let’s do this together." And then when the kids when when some little toddler starts dancing in front then they dance together with the toddler because it’s fun right they do it not because it shows off what a great singer they are but they do it because I want everyone to have fun so what everything they do is for the audience but then the selfish singer only cares about themselves okay great yeah I know I’m so terrible at calling all the singers selfish but but I think it’s a for for so many years as a psychological astrologer I found that maybe my job for the people who listen to me is is that raw authenticity because if we can admit to yourself that is it not true of course I I welcome it if people say hey May I disagree with you i’m thinking about the audience when I’m stoning sure but um but I can tell you if we are being honest with ourselves it’s like we keep getting obsessed about whether we are doing it right and then when people look at you with a frown on their face then you you (you perceive that as) yeah it’s like everything is about you they’re frowning because I suck right but they could be frowning for a million other reasons has nothing to do with you but then everything is about you right so which is why when you can release yourself from that self-centeredness it allows you to understand that you are here because there’s a role for you to play this whole event is not about you then the funny thing is is reverse psychology it actually works that now you’re not so stressed already because the event is not about you because if it’s all about you you better be perfect you know right yeah I think I can i mean because you you you help me retrieve some memories of my you know own performing uh journey uh you know because you can I think you can see I’m quite technical in my singing like I like the the the details and everything because I want perfection but at the same time uh this is what actually makes me so stressed up you know because I’m thinking about like am I doing this correctly how do people judge my singing you know and after a performance of this kind of mindset right I just feel so exhausted and then I you know because it’s all about me me you know am I good enough you know am I doing the right things sometimes when the audience don’t clap right because it’s a wedding dinner you know they may or may not clap right but I make it about me to say maybe I’m not performing enough maybe I’m not good enough but actually I I have several cases where at the end of the dinner nobody clap you know but at the end of the dinner people start coming you know as I’m leaving the hall hey you sing very well thank you so much you know then it’s like they just don’t want to clap it’s not about you you know it’s they’re just enjoying eating and mingling they don’t have time for you to clap it’s not a concert so I made it into me but actually I just need to do my job and the thing about a wedding dinner if you want to be really honest if the if the wedding dinner is about anybody it’s about the bride and the groom it’s definitely not about you right you know what I mean it’s like you know and you can imagine how um one of the big cornerstones of my work uh today we talk about singing right but I I’m invited to speak about things everything from dating to like career issues right and it’s it’s it’s staggering how much of our problems in any context is about how much we think the world revolves around us but actually we are not thinking enough about there’s actually all these eight billion people in the world know what role are you playing for them and which is why if you find that or singing is um lack of purpose or lack of meaning right it’s because meaning and purpose only comes from what what function it performs for other people and not necessarily for ourselves if everything is about us there’s no purpose and no meaning to do it for one person is not worth it but to do it for an entire auditorium of 2,000 people watching you that feels a bit more worth it you know what I’m saying we not we are not great right so to do it for one person is very silly like not worth the effort right you know what I mean okay uh question seven okay so does experience make one more approachable less drained more emotionally attractive and be able to sing with more emotions i can tell you a lot of these questions right come from one one of my students but her Gemini energy very strong she needs a lot of information oh that’s that’s fine it’s fine uh but my answer my answer to this question is yes also because I think okay you see I talk about experience um giving confidence and so the thing is that once you have experience then you the most important thing is that experience makes you less self-centered you know how when you brush teeth nowadays you are not really thinking about like oh I am this person brushing teeth but let me tell you if you’re looking at a four old yeah a four year old kid is very conscious of like oh [ __ ] am I do it correctly or not is my mother going to look at my teeth later hey why you never brush properly you know so it’s Yes but when you when you do it every day you’re not thinking about it and that means that you are more present for other people and that you are not just self-centered and thinking about yourself you know what I’m saying yeah so experience makes everything easier yes great okay last question why do some people love to sing from young but others don’t and just like to listen to others sing i think you may have sort of explained it but no I mean there are there are things in the chart that could suggest why some people dis discover music later in life Bevlyn remember this I I teach techniques like anticia for example sometimes the north note is one of those things that can awaken things that happen later in life when people have the maturity to realize that oh you know life is not just about promotions and earning lots of money maybe there’s time for music isn’t that nice right so some people go into it in their retirement for example which is very nice um but why do some people love to sing from young uh it could be related to the chart in the sense that some people are just naturally very like it’s like a showy personality i mentioned about the sun and if sun is strong in the person’s chart they will want to uh draw attention to themselves from a young age so to be fair both Bevlyn and I have strong suns so which means from even as young as uh as childhood or even early teens we we like the idea of being on stage of of you know stage and I’m the same right and I’m the same so these people are more likely because it’s part of how these people are wired right so it means that uh and you don’t really change your personality from from from birth to death right not really the the core personality is pretty much the same person so that’s why um these people will demonstrate those um from from a young age um but you know like listening to other people sing is also it can be shown in the chart as well so there are certain signs there are certain planets that um describe more of appreciation rather than action so that means there are people who will pay a lot of money to go to the opera but have never felt the need to get trained in opera singing yeah yeah yeah some of you love to go to Paris and look at all these like Picassos and whatever but you are never motivated to actually be a bender yourself right so there’s um there are things in our chart that show this is what we admire and this is what we appreciate but not necessarily that you want to be a producer right so it’s a it’s a different part of the the psyche so I I don’t know if this um is a technical answer but um clearly I think it’s fair because we need consumers as well we can’t all be producers Right right it’s like if everybody wants to be astrologer then I also out of business already but some people just like watching me read charts like I got students who tell me May your class uh I have trouble learning things in your class maybe I’m I’m slow which is not true but oh I really like coming and watch your videos and watch you read charts so I mean sure I mean if if that’s what you enjoy that’s what you enjoy right but if you want to learn you can learn if you don’t want you just want to watch video that’s cool too okay all right great so I think um my last you know um slide here is to ask you for some closing advice from the standpoint of astrology like you know what how what what would you say to encourage singers aspiring singers you know you know in their journey of growth and expansion in their singing I think okay maybe in the context of Singapore right uh it’s not a country that promotes the arts and and and singing and music and that kind of thing i know it’s difficult to find an avenue so uh I I think one of the things that astrology can really help people with is as what Bevlyn says there’s a lot of people with that guilt that that you want to pursue something because this is different from trying to get Ace at school right so um I think if this is something that you are worried about and that you you feel like there are barriers to to self expression then uh just like Bevlyn you may find that astrology becomes a way to in her words heal that inner child demon so that means if there are things that you’re embarrassed about and and frankly it is a self-acceptance issue that I want to be a singer oh my god this is bad like I’m a bad person i want to be a singer right so let people feel I’m very hao-lian (showy) or whatever i I think because the we we have very limited time so I I haven’t even managed to share this part but I think it’s very empowering you know to to know the wound inside you that you didn’t even know it’s been festering all through your life and you just you know go through day in day out feeling like you’re not worth it you’re not expressive you know a lot of wounds are inside you that you know just festers throughout your life yeah and you know and it’s not just singing there are people who have the same problem at work you find it hard to speak up you find it hard to ask for promotion you know so it’s this expression is is just a human way of putting something out there and it affects everything in life and of course for singing as well now the other thing is that um the other problem with the fact that not a lot of people go into music and the arts in Singapore is that there seems to be this formula right everybody has to follow this um must be recording artist must be a whatever and as we covered so many examples of different ways in which some somebody might decide to build a career or a side hustle in in singing and I think sometimes if you try to take too much advice from the industry people then they tell oh it’s it’s done like that in Singapore one size fit all everybody square peg round hole right and you’re too old you’re not pretty enough you know the usual suspects yeah yeah exactly so which means that at at a various stage of your life and I think it’s also important to use astrology as a way to sometimes It’s very useful to eliminate your choices you know some people are lost right because then there are like a million ways to do music should you should you Instagram should you like this and that and there are people you know there are famous singers ask Bevlyn there are famous singers who never show their face one so they are you know they sing songs for animation like all your Disney animation there are some fantastic voices and millions and millions of people watch it for decades and decades and tell me who’s the voice of Snow White in the cartoon not the not the new one right you know what I mean have you heard of people like Liz Callaway have you heard of people like Judy Kuhn the voice of Pocahontas right so is it possible that there are people who don’t mind just sharing their voice but then too paisei (shy) to show their face uh Judy Kuhn is a Broadway actress so she’s not too paisei (shy) but you know what I mean right so I actually have a student right uh who who say uh she likes cosplay because she doesn’t show her face she doesn’t want to show her face why not why not just dress up as a Japanese anime character and then go to events and sing at events and then you can hide behind the character or you can sing the theme song from the Japanese anime that’s fine right so so the the the truth is that there are really a myriad of ways that somebody can find something that is unique to you that’s expressive and it doesn’t mean that you have to wear sexy clothes it doesn’t mean you have to be an Instagram star it doesn’t mean you have to sing every day right so there the yeah you I think it’s important to know who we are and then we can design for yourself this way of doing things that allows you to contribute it allows you to be yourself and not feel like you have to like go and cut off a finger or an arm here and there just to be what people say you must be which to me is very bullshitty is is not real i think um the the how do I say this one of the saddest things in life right is if you cannot see yourself clearly to me that’s one of the saddest things in life and I wish I know astrology earlier because I I realized that I don’t see myself clearly and then suddenly right like the grid is on now I’m like aiyo what what have I been doing all my life you know like just get on with it you know yeah yeah the feedback I get from all my psychological astrology students it’s like it’s just insane how there is a language to describe almost everything that you are experiencing or thinking or feeling but it never occurred to people that there’s such a way to actually use English words to describe what is actually happening or why you think a particular way or why you behave a certain way uh and also the students like to notice that their classmates are very different from them and it becomes very clear to you what is natural for you is totally not natural for your classmate and vice versa and then you can respect not just yourself you can respect other people as well for the individuals that they are so astrology makes it very hard for you to like hate people it’s like you you develop a new love for humanity and how people are and to appreciate that actually everyone has a place to be that’s true so how can people reach you you know for reading you know or or to take your courses how can they reach you okay so for uh if you are somebody who is uh new to this I would recommend one of two things so one is that if you are the type who is the learner type you like to see how things work and you like to spend some time to like what Bevlyn says get to know yourself then I say you can start your journey in the basic class i call this decode the birth chart so it’s it’s just a one weekend class uh and I’ll teach you some of the basics if you if you like my teaching style and you find it very engaging and easy to apply then you can go on and do the level two which is me because they all think that yeah I don’t know how to read it’s like I’m very sucky at this and you don’t realize that especially Bevlyn you did the the exercise at the end of the the peer review uh and in fact what you were able to produce as a lay man as somebody who say oh I don’t know um what you produce there is better than most professional astrologers i I guarantee because I’m in the industry I know I know what the professionals can do and I know what my students can do my students are better than most professionals wow they will not believe it yeah i mean to be honest you know I I practised on my friends you know and I can say I practised over 50 charts because I’m so into it right and I mean the the the feedback is usually oh it’s so accurate of course I’m not always 100% accurate because I’m not there yet but I think generally it it speaks of it speaks volume of your your volume and your content you know the the kind of uh the value you give in your courses yeah also because Bevlyn is a very hardworking student True because if she never practice after class then I tell you everything give back to the teacher i’m very Capricornian in this I cannot guarantee whether or not a student wants to practise after the class right but but for my students who pay attention in class and you actually bother to do some practice after class you’re better than a lot of
