i’m a graphic designer and illustrator but what’s the difference keep watching to find out hi everyone welcome back to my channel if you’re new here my name is Rigel and in this corner of the internet i make design and lifestyle related videos if you’re here for an enjoyable time and you want to stick around make sure to subscribe and hit that bell for notifications so what are the differences between being a graphic designer and being an illustrator graphic designers are mostly known for creating marketing materials for goods and services so those are things like logos packaging brochures social media ads etc as a graphic designer you’re going to heavily work with typography because you want to ensure that you’re going to effectively convey the message about the brand to your targeted audience in addition you’re going to focus a lot on the composition of the layout of your designs just to make sure that everything you’ve pieced together is cohesive and visually appealing there’s not really an emphasis in drawing elements for the projects that you do create because it’s not needed that much so you actually don’t have to be that great in drawing to become a graphic designer if you’re interested in learning about how to become a graphic designer i actually made a video on that that you could check out after this one i’ll also leave a card somewhere up here that you could click on and i’ll also leave the link in the description below as for the tools that you’re going to use as a graphic designer other than a sketchbook and a computer you’re going to want to use the adobe programs so i primarily use three those are indesign illustrator and photoshop when i create things for businesses now for an illustrator it’s going to be a lot more drawing focus because as the job title goes you’re making illustrations you can often find their work in book covers or magazine spreads as well as illustrations in children’s books comic books manga but they’re also in other materials as well for me i create custom portraits which is another thing that you can do and you can also make pattern designs which pretty much bleeds into surface design as for the tools that you’re going to use as an illustrator other than the traditional media digitally you’re going to use drawing tablets now i use an ipad as well as a wacom tablet depending on the illustration style i want on the ipad you can draw directly onto the tablet and see your illustrations right there on the screen now as for the wacom tablet i actually have mine with me right here so this is what mine looks like it’s the wacom menudos and you basically draw directly onto here but your illustrations are going to be seen separately onto a computer screen now as for the drawing applications on the ipad procreate is a really good illustration app that you can use and then when i use a wacom tablet i still stick with the adobe programs but i primarily work in adobe illustrator and then sometimes i work in photoshop so i hope you found this video to be helpful in understanding the basic differences about being a graphic designer and about being an illustrator if it was and you enjoy this video make sure to give this video a thumbs up and just let me know in the comments section below if there’s any other design topics you’d like me to talk about if you’re a fellow designer and or illustrator and i might have missed something you can also drop that in the comments section below also if you’re interested please support me on kofi by buying me a coffee it’s a one-time payment and helps me out with this channel as well as my other platforms so i can keep improving and consistently create creative content for all of you the link will be in the description below so thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe so we can keep hanging out and i shall see you in the next video bye
