hi i’m john hudson i’m course director for graphic design and illustration and i’m going to just show you around the studio for a little while so we have this wonderful open plan space where both graphic designers and illustration students work together and separately throughout an academic year we have a zoned area so we have first years second years and third years in the third years we like to make sure that students have a dedicated space where we can that they can experiment and make it their own for that final year also in the studio we have banks of macs so students can work with with a tutor on a workshop and then take their work over to the max and work with them independently this is the main um studio area for illustration and this is where a lot of the the teaching goes on it’s a really excellent workspace in that it’s bright it’s airy lots of natural light and it’s a good opportunity for students to come in and engage and collaborate inside the studio everything is very much planned around day-to-day activities and day-to-day teaching so it’s a wonderful buzz when all the students are in here working hard this is one of our smaller breakout teaching rooms which can be used for more personal one-to-one tutorials with students or indeed smaller group critiques and we’ve got a range of macintosh computers in here that students can also engage in with some of the digital design work in their own self-managed time one of the things we’re really pleased with in this area is the paper library that is an excellent resource that students can use to really get a feel for different types of paper and stock that they may wish to implement with some of their coursework we have dirty spaces so students can cut and make draw and print and ink we have storage spaces for students as well who are working in this kind of open plan space over here we’ve got another little breakout room and again these kind of rooms are excellent opportunities for if students want to come in and have some kind of dialogue between you know different group members if they’re doing group work or teamwork and it’s also another quiet space that students can come in and work away from the main central studio space this space also acts as our degree show space at the end of the three years so both illustration and graphics present their work in this wonderful white space for industry to see for their peers to see and also for their parents to see and degree show in this space is a wonderful exciting time so this is the experimental print room and students have got access to this both graphics and illustration to really experiment with print and see how print can be incorporated in their work so we’ve got a range of print presses in here where students can use it for using movable type and letterpress through to things like color graph printing drypoint etching and monoprint and lino cut and i think the students really enjoy this space because it’s an opportunity to get messy but also be really creative and have lots of fun so if you’ve got any questions then follow us through our social media channels get in touch with the contacts that we’ve shared with you and we really hope to see you online or in the studio at some time soon thanks
