foreign [Music] hi everyone welcome back to my colorful country live today I have a video for you all that was requested a while back now and that is putting different colored pencil Brands to the test in Millie marotta’s coloring books so after my color along um in Millie Marauder’s Island Escape book here where I use prismacolor pencils um on this page here some of you mentioned that you’ve encountered challenges with prismacolor on this particular paper due to its smooth texture now I find that I can get my prisoners to work well for me on most papers but different pencils do work better on different papers so I do have a little saying I tend to refer to when choosing particular pencil brands for my coloring pages and I guess that’s going to be put to the test today but here is my little slogan for you all when the paper’s rough grab wax for the stuff when it’s smooth and neat oil pencils can’t be beat So today we’re embarking on an exploration together to find out which pencil brand performs best on these pages and I’m going to see if my little slogan measures up to the test now I’m going to be working with 12 different colored pencil Brands today all of which are listed on my conversion chart now I just want to clarify that I’m only using these specific Brands because they’re the only pencils that I currently own so of course there is a wide array of colored pencil Brands out there and there might be others that work just as well but today’s test is going to be limited to the pencils in my collection so to conduct my experiment I’m gonna be coloring the water the waves here on this page and I’ve selected a color combination with my prismacolor pencils to start then I’m going to replicate the colors with matching Shades from the other brands so the prismas I have chosen are uh pc901 which is indigo blue pc903 103 sorry cyrillion blue um PC 903 true blue um pc919 non-photo blue and um sky blue light which is pc1086 I just did a restock of my pencils and I must have missed this one out so we’re going to be working with my little baby today um now I chose this combination because it offers the most matches in other pencil sets and I’ll quickly show you on my conversion chart you can find my conversion chart up on my website to download for free um it’s also in my Facebook group too so you can download it from there and there’s also a dedicated video that explains um a further information about the chart which I’ll link up above so I’ll just show you through here if we have a look at so we’re going to be starting with indigo blue like I said from our prismacolor pencils and if you have a look across the line here we have a match in nearly every shade except these two so I’ll just have a look above and below and see if there’s any close enough match in the two brands that we’re missing that are teaser and the brute funeral rounds um and then we have this way Cerulean blue was our next color and we have a match in every brand except for Chroma flow um now the closest in the chroma flow will be the one beneath it which is the lapis blue um yeah so we may I’ll just double check and see if it fits in well but we may swap it out for a Lapis blue instead and then for True Blue here we don’t have a match in luminance and we don’t have a matching artista this color here the peacock blue and our teaser might make a good match and what’s happening in luminance so luminance has nothing okay so when I get to luminance I may need to leave it out completely or have a better look and see if I can find a so we’re going to be jumping from Cerulean blue there’s no true blue match and then we need non-photo blue which is this one here so there’s a bit of a jump to go from the Cerulean straight to the non-photo blue because it’s um and that’s not going to give us a very smooth gradient so I will have to find I think I’m gonna have to find a middle shade between them too so that might take me a minute to have a look um and also so we can see here non-photo blue has matching everything except for the whole binds now the whole binds we do have a relatively close match in sky blue here so I will be putting sky blue in there for holbines um and the lightest color in this combo is a sky blue light and if you have a look here there are no matches in any brand for sky blue lights so um I’m either gonna have to choose something similar so some of these colors here so the blue poppy in the pastel tins from Castle art that could be a decent enough um match and then the glacier blue here I’m not sure about that one so what I’m going to have to do is either look for something similar choose a different similar color or I might just blend it out with white but the main objective here is to get a feel for how each Brand’s pencils interact with the paper so it doesn’t matter if it is an exact conversion as well so while I’m coloring I’m going to speed up the video and add some music while we walk through the test then at the end I’m going to share my thoughts and findings also for consistency I’m going to be using Straight blends to color for the pencil brands as I mentioned in my beginner’s blending video which you can find linked up above I personally treat all my pencils the same whether they are oil or wax I use a straight blend for some elements and then I’ll layer for different effects on different elements keep in mind that some pencils might perform differently when layering but today we’re all about straightforward Blends however stay tuned and make sure you have your notifications turned on because I do have an upcoming video on layering techniques for beginners so without further Ado let’s dive in and see which pencils will shine on the pages of Island Escape thank you thank [Music] [Music] all right guys after putting 12 different pencil Brands to the test in Millie Marauders Island Escape I’ve got some insights to share with you all firstly I just want to mention that uh Holbein pencils did not quite meet my expectations for this paper but the majority of the other brands performed admirably now if I had to Crown a winner it would be our teasers now that surprised me a lot I don’t actually use my artisas very often but they impress me the most with their performance on this paper The Brute femur squares in the artex pencils also delivered awesome results prismacolors black widows polychromos and luminance all provided quite a seamless blend so if you’re planning to dive into millimotter’s intricate illustrations consider giving a teaser The Brute furnace both square and round are found perform quite well artex prismacolors and polychromos a try so all these Brands all worked well for me on this paper so I’m sure one if not more of those Brands will work well for you as well now I just like to emphasize that these findings are based on my own personal preferences and techniques to color so how you color and what feels right for you may vary so don’t hesitate to share your own recommendations in the comments below if you’ve discovered another pencil brand that shines in Milling Waters books let the community know and help other colorists find their perfect match so thank you all for joining me on this little experiment today if you found this video helpful don’t forget to hit that like button subscribe if you haven’t already and ring the notification Bell to stay updated until next time happy coloring have a wonderful day bye for now foreign
