Arthur Rackham a life with illustration is a beautiful publication by pavilion books James Hamilton gives us a extraordinary insight into the life and times of Arthur Rackham and this edition really does justice to the dark twisted beautiful illustrations of Arthur Rackham the book itself is clothbound as you can see it’s entirely in color the lettering on the front is emboss’d the side of the book is also emboss’d and the back of the book of course has got some recommendations from various publications and people it’s a beautiful outside of course maybe show you what you get on the inside title page of course and then we get started straight away why this wonderful illustration brings in some interesting imagery the lion a bear and a greyhound taking down some kind of dragon the contents show you more or less the periods that each chapter covers and each page has some some text that directly pertains to Arthur reckons life and some small black-and-white illustrations and some larger full-color illustrations this is by no means a book for children the rack’em while a very prolific illustrator for children’s books can just be a little scary a little like saying wait until I get to some of these some of the later later illustrations this is the illustration that’s on the front cover of the book um nobody really does twist it in crooked and weird quite as well as Arthur Okun illustration from Alice in Wonderland of course and as his adventures this is this is possibly one of my favorites it’s Jack Sprat and his wife such a cute little Nursery Rhyme have turned into such a sinister image hmm I mean I guess guess we came going full dark at this point skip a few pages and then of course there’s a flipside this aching beauty which pervades absolutely every image despite the sometimes grotesque imagery the book continues we have a very nice selection of his of his illustrations of course they’re not all here they couldn’t possibly all be here he was so prolific but but there’s a very nice selection and the paper itself is it’s nice and thick it and very glossy but also very smooth very M very pleasing to the touch I get a chronology of Arthur Hawkins life full list of illustrations videography somebody tells about his finances and an index to this volume it’s a very beautiful book I like it very very much for any fans of Arthur Rackham
