[Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you hi my name is Danny Conlin VP of marketing and strategy here at ignite visibility and my name is Sharon Cornwell I’m the VP of SEO here at ignite visibility and today we will be exposing the biggest SEO myths let’s dive into it so Jen there’s a lot of chatter around domain age and whether or not that’s a ranking factor is the longer your domain around the better it’s possible to rank true or false that is false I think a lot of people interpret domain age as domain Authority they think that automatically because you’re an older site you have more Authority but it’s not true you really have to invest time and resources in order to to build up that Authority through your age over the years another question in the SEO world is whether or not content that’s hidden behind tabs or accordions affects page rankings is that true or false it’s not true I think it’s still really good to go in and test if that content that’s hidden you can test and see if that’s being crawled by Google but nine times out of ten if it’s visible within your HTML there’s no reason to assume that Google can’t get to it if you can get to it within the code so can Google what are a couple of ways we can test whether or not Google’s picking up that content behind those tabs and accordions a couple ways I’ve done it you can use a site search inside of just Google and you can just search a little snippet of your content that’s tucked into one of those accordion tabs and if it pulls up in that you know that Google’s been able to crawl it and index your content you can also take a look inside of search console and you can test your live URL there and you can see exactly what Google is interpreting within the page and within the code and then you can just look at your source code too honestly most of the time unless your site’s built on JavaScript this isn’t an issue if you’re using JavaScript that’s really when you should take a closer look at whether or not that content is able to be accessed so there you go another myth debunked don’t shy away from using accordions on your website a lot of the times they make your content more digestible for users and a really nice element to your page layout as long as Google can see the content it does not affect your page ranking next up there’s been a lot of talk about ideal links around content and what the ideal word count is to have your content have the best chances of ranking is longer content better true or false false for that specifically this is a pretty common question that we get is how long should my content be and there’s not a perfect answer like most things in SEO um there is not the perfect golden word count number it’s really about the quality that you’re bringing to the content so if you’re writing 500 words for the sake of it it’s not going to do as well as 500 words with like a really great intent adding a lot of valuable information for your user there have been Publications in the past who have done studies on this and what a lot of people will come to us specifically is saying I think 2 000 words is the ideal word count and while maybe that there have been studies that have proved that as you said I think as long as content is helpful and is abiding by Google’s guidelines um that’s what’s going to give you the best ranking fact um ranking potential I think some of that word count is kind of old too it’s a little bit of like dated SEO um Google’s a lot smarter now where they’re able to look at everything in the page and they don’t care that you have 5 000 words if you also have some great video content or images or other other types of content are really important now we’re seeing a lot of sites rank better when they have that even though they have a lower word count on the page rich media content is the future so Jen as in SEO world is SEO a one-time job can we just update a page optimize it and let it be or do we have to keep revisiting a website and continue optimizing it it’s SEO a one-time job true or false false SEO is not a one-time job SEO is an ongoing process we see this happen with clients all the time we’ll put together a strategy we’ll work on a couple of pages we’ll see great results and then we start to go work on something else and then all of a sudden because we haven’t been paying attention to this page we start to see results and rankings dwindle so it’s really important to have a good Cadence of refresh and going in and revisiting things consistently over time our best performing content is often content that we are refreshing and revisiting every month or every other month we have to remember Google’s guidelines as well they want to provide their users with the most helpful content and the most recent content as well so recency and revisiting a page very often is probably going to give you the best ranking potential never one and done next up there’s been a lot of talk about core web vitals and the shift from page speed to core web vitals does that mean that page speed is no longer essential true or false false page speed is part of core web files and I think they get used interchangeably a lot but page speed is still really important to the user experience which is what Google is using as an indicator now from all sorts of angles but for page speed specifically when they get to the site and they don’t enjoy it the likelihood of them bouncing is there that’s a metric that Google could take a look at and see okay people are not actually enjoying this page for whatever reason maybe your content’s great but they just can’t get to it um so page speed is still really important for the user experience 100 agree how frustrating is it when we land on a website and the page takes a very long time to load bounce rates increase I don’t want to wait around I immediately leave that page if it doesn’t load within a few seconds so yes for user experience as well I think page speed is incredibly important next up so in the SEO World a lot of our keyword research is based on volume right we want to look at which keywords our users are searching for that have the highest volume because that correlates into the highest traffic potential does that mean that we shouldn’t focus on zero volume keywords true or false false zero volume keywords are not bad zero that search volume is an average monthly search metric so even if you’re getting a few searches a month it might pull down to a zero number that we’re seeing the other thing you really want to take a look at and really want to understand is maybe it’s a lower search volume but it’s a very high intent keyword so even if you knew that those 10 monthly searches on average you could capture all of them and be the exact right answer for them and you could convert all 10 that’s a really valuable investment versus trying to go after 10 000 monthly search volume knowing that it’s not as high intent for your business or your purchase funnel this is especially important very Niche businesses where they don’t have keyword sets with a lot of volume behind them don’t shy away from targeting these zero volume keywords as Jen said it’s really important to just make sure that you’re optimizing for what aligns with your ideal Target and your ideal user and making sure that you are presenting yourself as the perfect option for them around that keyword set this is also something we see really commonly for local search volumes too in our local campaigns we really like to take a look at the national volume because that gives us the best General understanding of how all Searchers are searching and then start to look at nuances for locality so oftentimes we see phrase plus City and that search volume is very low or sometimes zero but we know it’s the highest intent for your business well those are all the seomas we are debunking today to recap is domain age a ranking Factor false is content hidden behind tabs recordings affecting your page rankings false use them to make a page look better most of the time is longer content better false write the appropriate amount amount of content that answers the question fully that you are trying to solve for and is best for your users is SEO a one-time job false you need to constantly optimize your web pages and your website to have the best ranking potential is Page speed essential yes yes it is it’s a part of core web vitals you should definitely be looking at your page speed and finally should you not focus on zero volume keywords false zero volume keywords especially for Niche Industries or local Industries as well is really important to look at and make sure that you’re optimizing for the most relevant keywords for your users even if the volume there is small To None that’s it for today thanks so much for watching for more information on digital marketing visit the ignitevisibility.com blog and we’ll catch you next time
